UNTTnn STaTns PATENT OFFICE GEORGE IV. XVESTON AND XVILLIAM H. IVESTON, 0F PHILADELPHIA, AND MllC/Illlli ANCKER, 0F BRISTOL, PENNSYLVANIA.
SPRINKLER.
SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 642,188, dated January 30, 1900.
Application iiled August 20, 1898.
To @ZZ who/1t it 71mg/ concern:
Beit known that we, GEORGE W. WESTON and VILLIAM Il. YVESTON, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, and MITCHEL ANCKER, residing at Bristol, in the county of Bucks, State of Pennsylvania, citizens of the United States, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sprinklers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following' io specification and accompanying drawings.
Our invention consists of an improved construction of a sprinkler which is especially adapted for use ina bath-tub, having a plu rality of faucets, the same embodying branches,
a rose attached thereto, a sleeve by means of which said branch or branches are attached to a faucet, and means for coupling said branches and adapting the same to faucets of different widths apart.
It also consists of the novel construction of said coupling, whereby it may firmly embrace said branches.
It further consists of novel means for sustaining the rose, as will be hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure l represents a front elevation, partly in section, of a sprinkler and its adjuncts embodying our invention, the same being shown applied to a plurality of faucets. Figs. 2 and 3 represent plan views of detached portions thereof. Fig. 4 represents a vertical section of a detached portion thereof. Fig. 5 represents a perspective view of a bushing employed. Fig. 6 represents a side elevation of another form of our invention, wherein the device embodied therein is employed with a single faucet.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the iigures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates branches or tubes formed of metal or other suitable material, of elbow form and fitted in the inner ends of the elastic sleeves B, whose upper ends receive the mouth portions of the faucets C.
E designates a head or coupling for the branches A, the saine having the lower ends of the branches A freely therein, the horizontal limb E of said coupling carrying the rose or sprinkler head F, (shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1,) it being noticed that the coup- Serial No. 689,148. (No model.)
ling admits of the application of the device to faucets of different widths apart.
In order to form a tight joint for the branches A and limbs G of the coupling D, the ends of said limbs are split or divided, as at H, and provided with ears .I on opposite sides of the splits or divisions, the same having screws K fitted thereto, whereby the split members may be closed and tightly clamped 6o upon the ends of the branches A, thus firmly connecting the latter with the coupling D. Interposed between the branches A'and said coupling D are gaskets D for evident purposes. On the interior of the sleeves B, at the upper ends thereof, are bushings or packings L of elastic material, the same adapting the sleeves to firmly hug t-he faucets C, admitting of the application of the device to faucets of different sizes. Encircling the fau- 7o cets C are the collars M, whose ends are sepa rated, so that they may be readily opened and fitted on the said faucets, said ends receiving the screw-eyes N, whose ends contact with the faucets, so as to tightly clamp the collars 75 on the latter. Connected with said eyes N are the buckles P, the same consisting of the members or sleeves Q and the screw-rods R, said sleeve being threaded for engagement of said rods, the outer ends of the latter being 8o attached to said eyes N, the buckle thus constituted forming'a bridge to which is attached a hanger consisting of the supplemental buckle S, formed similarly to the buckle D and having the ends of the screw-rods T secured, respectively,to the eye U on the buckle P and the eye V on the rose F, it being evident that the buckles may be adjusted and tightened so as to retain said rose in adjusted position and also that when the water is 9o turned on it passes from the faucets through the sleeves B, branches A, and into the couplings D and escapes from the limb E of the latter into the rose, whereby it may nicely and conveniently sprinkle the person using the same.
In Fig. t3 we show the rose applicable to a single faucet and attached to a branch WV, the latter being connected with the sleeve X, which is fitted on the faucet Y. Encircling loo said faucet is the collar M; to whose screweye N is attached one end of the buckle S, and
its other end is attached to the eye V of the sprinkler for firmly supporting the latter and retaining it in adjusted position.
In a companion application for Letters Patent for a sprinkler, Serial No. 684,780, filed by us on the 30th day of June, 1898, there are shown a pliable branch with a rose at one end and a tapering nozzle at the other end, said nozzle being adapted to enter a faucet, and a flexible connection attached to said nozzle and rose for adjusting the rose fromsaid nozzle. In the present case We employ a ring on a faucet and separate rods and a buckle attached to said ring and the rose, effecting the adjustment of the latter from said faucet.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl l. In a sprinkler, a branch, a rose at one end thereof, a pliable sleeve at the other end thereof, a clip attachable to a faucet, and adjustable connections between said clip and rose.
2. In a sprinkler, a branch, a rose at one end thereof, a pliable sleeve at the other end thereof, attachable to a faucet, a clip adapted to be fitted on said faucet, and adjustable connections between said rose and clip, the latter being divided and its ends provided with a clamping-screw.
3. In a sprinkler, confluent branches, a coupling therefor, a rose on said coupling, clips attachable to faucets, a bridge attached to said clips, and a hanger attachable to said bridge and said rose.
4. In a sprinkler formed of confluent branches and a rose thereon, a support forsaid branches consisting of an adjustable bridge attachable to faucets, and an adjustable hanger attachable to said bridge and said rose.
5. In asprinkler,conf1uentbranches,sleeves connectible with said branchesand with faucets, a coupling for said branches and a rose on said coupling, in combination with clips attachable to said faucets, eyes ou said clips, rods attached to said eyes, a buckle engaging` said rods and additional rods connected with said buckle and said rose and a buckle engaging said additional rods.
6. The combination of a branch, a rose thereon, a sleeve in engagement with an end of said branch, a packing located in the upper portion of said sleeve, a collar or clip adapted to engage a faucet, a screw-eye connected with the ends of said collar, an eye on said rose and a buckle common to said eyes.
7. In a sprinkling device of the character stated, a plurality of branches A, sleeves B engaging the upper ends of said branches, a split T-coupling D for said branches, packing within said coupling at opposite ends thereof, means for compressing said coupling7 a rose attached to a member E of said coupling, collars or clips adapted to engage faucets, screweyes engaging said collars, a buckle common to said eyes, and a buckle common to said rose and to said first-mentioned buckle.
