'Io ALL wLIoM IT nAY ooNoEInv:
Be it known that I, N. WATERMAN,"of Toledo, in the county of Lucas, and State of Ohio, have invented new and Improved Folding Chairsf and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had t0 the accompanying drawings, forming part of thisispeciication.
The present invention relates to that class of chairs in which the seat-frame, whether covered with a rigid or flexible material, is hinged to the front Vside of the chair, and is supported by its rear edge upon a crossround in the .backefram and the invention consists in a novel manner of connecting the back edge of the chair-seat to the round of the back-frame, and in so curving or shaping the back legs to the chair-frame, that,
when the chairrframenis hronghtLto avhorizontal position, or nearly so, they willferm-arest for the chair-seat.A
In the accompanying plate of drawings my improved folding chair is illustrated- Figure I'being a central longitudinal vertcal'section through the chair. Figure 2, a side view of the chair with its seatin its lowest position.
A, in the drawings, represents the traine constituting the back to the chair, and lby the lower portions B,V
of its side pieces C, forming the front legs to the chair. D the back legs, formedjby the curved side pieces E that are pivoted at F, to the side pieces'C, forming the front legs so as to turn thereon. G the seat-frame, pivoted by-its front rail L to the upper ends of the back legs D, with its hind or rear rail or strip H hung to the round I of the back-frame, through hooks .I inserted in the said strip H. The width of the seat-frame is such as to fit within and between the side pieces of the'bacjk-frame A. In tig. 1 the chair is shown as in an upright position, but in iig. 2 it is, represented as in its lowest position, the seat-frame G then resting upon the 'pieces constituting the back legs, the curverof which is such as to then afford a suitable .rest or support therefor.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patenti The combination of the seat G, and legs B D, whereby the back legs D, fold on the front legs B, and the .sea-t G,`passng through between the side pieces C, yabove the 'round I, fold on the hind legs D, of the chair,
substantially as described for the purpose specified. Y
