Be it known that I, EDMOND H. THIBAULT, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Attachments for Cycle-Saddles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and

This invention relates to an improvement in attachments for cyc1e-saddles or the part between the saddle and the saddle-post by which the saddle is supported, the object of the invention being to interpose between the saddle and the post a spring-cushion, which is permitted to have a slight rocking motion both laterally and longitudinally; and it consists in the construction as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claims.

The attachment consists of a body A, having an opening adapting it to be set over a saddle-post B and to be clamped thereon by a set-screw C. At the upper end of this head is a longitudinal tongue D, adapted to enter a longitudinal groove E, formed in the under face of an intermediate piece F, and on the upper face of this intermediate piece F is a transverse tongue G, adapted to enter a transverse groove H in a head I, which is formed with an upwardly extending post J, over which is set two plates K K, forming a clamp for supporting the cycle-saddle. The style of the clamp, however, may vary with the style of saddle employed. As herein shown the adjacent faces of the plates are formed with corresponding grooves to receive rods L L of a saddle, which are clamped between the plates by bolts M M. In the upper face of the tongue D at opposite ends are recesses (1, adapted to receive spiral springs N N, and the upper face of the tongue G is formed with cor responding recesses g, adapted to receive spi ral springs O, and the tongue D is secured in the groove E by a transverse pin P, and the tongue G is secured in the groove H bya pin Q and so that the body and head may rock in opposite directions. The clamp maybe secured to the neck in any desired manner; but as herein shown the heads of the bolts M are perforated and adapted to receive a rod R, which extends through the said heads and through the lower portion of the neck J ,whereby the clamp is held against turning on the neck; but other means for securing the clamp may be employed.

Instead of forming square tongues and grooves, as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4:, the tongue may be nearly circular in transverse section and the grooves of corresponding shape, as shown in Fig. 6, in which case the tongue and groove will be in closer contact than they are in the construction shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4, as in that construction a space must be left between the adjacent faces of the head, intermediate part, and body in order to permit the parts to rock.

In View of the foregoing it will be understood that I do not limit my invention to the exact details of construction .herein shown and described, but hold myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. An attachment for cycle-saddles, comprising a body, intermediate part and head, said intermediate part formed on one face with a tongue, and on its other face with a groove in line transverse to the line of the tongue, the head and body formed with tongues and grooves adapted for connection with the tongue and groove in the intermediate part, and springs between the head and body and the intermediate part, substantially as described.

2. An attachment for cycle-saddles, comprising a body adapted to be clamped to a saddle-post, said body formed at its upper end with a longitudinal tongue, an intermediate part having a groove in its under face adapted to set over the tongue on the body, and having a tongue in its upper face transverse to the tongue on the body, a head having a groove in its under face adapted to set over the tongue on the intermediate part, said intermediate part pivotaliy connected with the body and head, springs interposed between the intermediate part and the head and body, and a
