Description

y @einen tetes @anni ffirr GEORGE W. SMITH, OF STRASBURG, OHIO.
t Letters Patent No. 64,042, dated April 23, 1867.
IlSIlItOll-IDy WEATHER-STRIP.
TO ALL WI-IOM IT MAY GONQERN:
Beit known that I, GEORGE SMITH, of Strasburg, in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and nseful Improvements in Weather-Strips; and I do hereby declare that the following is a clear, ful-l, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, as forming a part of'this specication, in which- Fignre 1 represents a front elevation; and
Figure 2 the manner of constructing the strip which is secured to the door-sill.
The nature of my invention consists in the' employment of the vseveral devices, in the manner hereinafter Y set forth, for the purpose of 'effectually preventing either rain or wind from driving in beneath door or Window.
In g. 1, A and B represent `the ordinary door and frnme; a is a strip of thin metal, the length of which corresponds with the Width of the door upon which it'is intended to be placed. Said strip is hinged to the bottom of the door on the opposite side in which it opens. g represents a at spring, also secured to the door, as fully shown in fig. 1. The lower end of springgshould extend nearly to the bottom of strip a. e represents a metal strip, each end of which is formed, as seen in fig. 2, for the purpose of retaining the strip a in an inclined position as the door is opened, thus preventing the spring g from forcing said strip to fall, thereby interfering with the shutting of the-door, It should be particularly observed that in hinging the strip, the lower side of it must 'extend below the bottom of the door.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, is.- l
The hinged'strip a, in combination with'spring g and metal strip e, constructed as described, and the Whole arranged as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention herewith ax tny signature in Vpresence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. SMITH.
