Be it known that I, HORACE S. WOLF, ofRolling Prairie, in La Porte county, in the State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement for Elevating Gates; and I do hereby declare that the following is a `full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification.
V'.Ihe nature of my invention consists in providing a lever with a proper hinge to raise the entire gate by means of said lever,`
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction andoperation.
I construct my gate in the usual form of constructing, farm gates. 'I 'he post A is a round post, around which the gate-hinge B Works, in a manner that the gate may swing either Way. The lever O is attached to the post A by a pin set in a hole in the top of said post A, and is attached to the prop D and lifter E in such a manner that when the lifter E is raised, the entire gate, by means o` the lever C, is elevated. The gate-fastener attached to the second panel of the gate G in such a manner that when the gate G swings from either way,'
the fastener F protrudes into the post H, that by means of the lever C the entire gate G is elevated above snow or mud, and smaller animals allowed to pass under; or, and by means of the lever C, together with the hinge B, the gate Gris swung either way free from all obstacles. i
What I claim as my invention, and dsire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y The application of the lever herein described, by means of whichv to elevate thecntire gate, and, too, with the least possible labor.
