WIRE FENCE DROPPER.
(Application filed Aug. 4, 1899,) (No Model.) 2 Sheets--Sheet 2.
. I H l m5 M M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM ALFRED OONROY, OF MOREE, AND JOHN WYNN MANOHEE, OF
SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES; SAID CONROY ASSIGNOR TO SAID MAN OI-IEE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 636,719, dated November '7, 1899.
Application filed August 4, 1899.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM ALFRED CoNEoY, residing at Moree, and JOHN WYNN MANGHEE, residing at Sydney, in the Oolony of New South Wales, subjects of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Fence Droppers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to keyless droppers for wire fences; and it consists of a dropper of the usual V-section type in which the wireslots are formed in a special manner, so as to nip the wire. y
Referring to the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a dropper in position on a sixwire fence; Fig. 2, a side view of the dropper; Fig. 3, front and side views, enlarged, of fragment of dropper and wire in position in same; Fig. 4, a section across dropper, and Fig. 5, a plan and section of dropper in blank.
The wire-slots are curved and the ends hooked or returned toward one another, but so as not to be directly opposite, in order that when the wires are forced home in said slots they will be kinked slightly and nipped therein.
In the drawings, A are the wire-slots, which are cut through the droppers. They are curved and terminate in returned ends B, which are not coincident in vertical position. The wire C, corresponding in diameter with the width of the slot A, is nipped by these irregularly-placed slot ends, and the dropper thereby prevented from moving along the wire. As there would be a tendency to work the droppers out of the vertical position if all the wire-slots were identical, it is preferred serial No. 726,168. (No mtdei.)
to adopt an alternating arrangement of high and low slot ends, as shown 'in Figs. l and 4.
The droppers are set on a fence by inserting the wires one at a time each in its appropriate slot and forcing them home into the hooked ends of said slots, in which they are nipped.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is l l. A dropper comprising an angle-bar having slots in the angle portion thereof, said slots havin ga portion extending down on each side of the bar and terminating in an upwardly-turned or hooked portion, the hooked portion'on one side of said bar being out of line with the hooked portion on the other side.
2. A dropper comprising an an gie-bar having a plurality of alternately-arranged slots in the angle portion thereof, said slots having a portion extending down on each side of the bar and terminating in an upwardlyturned or hooked portion, the hooked portion on one side being at a dierent elevation from the hooked portion on the other side, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we aiix our signatures in presence of witnesses.
WILLIAM ALFRED OONROY. LJOHN W'YNN MANOHEE.
