i 'PLow.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 634,777, dated October 10, 1899.
Application filed February 14,1899. Serial 170,705,513. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that. I,IWILLIAM M. TILLER, residing atPoint Peter, in thecounty of Oglethorpe and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows,'.of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in plows; and it consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a detail top plan View of the double cross and drag bars, Fig. 3 is aside View thereof, the cross-bar being shown in section; and Fig. 4 is. a perspective. view of the foot-piece, showing a somewhat different construction from that shown in Figsl and 2.
. The plow has the beam A and the handles B and the standard 0. ['he standard 0 has the vertically-elongated slot 0, which is preferably formed by making the standard of a bar bent upon itself at G with its arms so formed lapped on opposite sides of the beam A and secured by the bolts 0 These arms are inwardly bent at 0 just below the beam A, thus producing the narrow slot 0, in which is adjustably held the securing-bolt for the connecting cross-bar of the foot-piece. This foot-piece comprises the cross-bar D, which is slightly'bent at its middle portion D to properly fit against the standard 0 and has its portion D provided with an opening D for the bolt E, which secures it adj u'st'ably to the standard 0.
At its ends the cross-barD is provided with the rearwardly-projected and downwardly curved and returned. drag-bars F' and F, which are provided at their lower ends with suitably-formed shoes or shovels. It is pre' ferred to make the drag bar F longer thanthe bar F, so it will project and operate rearwardly with respect to the drag-bar F. securing the drag-bars to the cross-bar D the latter is provided near its ends with the 101igitudinal slots cl, which receive the bolts G, which connect the drag-bars to the connecting-bar D, so such drag-bar can be adj ustedlaterally as may be desired. To brace and steady the drag-bars in place, they are provided at their front ends with rearwardlyfacing shoulders f, which lap along the front edge of theconnecting-bar D and aid the securing-bolts in holding the drag-bars firmly and steadily to the connecting cross-bar.
The connecting crossbar may be adjusted purpose of repairing or renewing any of same.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent,is'-. a
1. The herein-described improvement in plows consisting of the standard composed of a bar bent upon itself at its middle to form the opposite arms which are spaced apart to form a slot, the cross-bar provided at its center with a bent portion to conform to the standard and with an opening for the bolt which secures the bar to the standard, such bar' having near its ends the longitudinal slots, the drag-bars provided with shovels and having at their front ends shoulders bearing in front of the cross-bar and having near said ends bolt-holes registering with the longitudinal slot of the. cross-bar, the bolts securing the drag-bar to the cross-bar and the bolt by which to secure the cross-bar to thestandard substantially as set forth.
2. In a plow substantially as described the I combination with a standard of a cross-bar secured thereto and provided at the ends combination of the cross-bar provided near its ends with longitudinal slots, the drag-bars provided at their lower ends with the shovels, having their front ends upturned along the front edge of the cross-bar and the bolts se- 5 curing the drag-bars to the cross-bar and passed through the slots of the cross-bar substantially as set forth.
5. In a plow, a cross-bar provided at its ends with rearwardly-projeeted drag-bins having shovels, one of said drag-bars being [0 longer than the other substantially as set forth.
'WILLIAM M. TILLER.
