LORENZO D. FERGUSON, OF OORNING, NEW YORK.
Lam Patent No. 63,376, dated April 2, i867.
IMPROVED ILLUMINATING BURNING FLUID.
@lge sa ami return in in time flutes 53mm in making part Hf tlgs same,
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, LORENZO D. FERGUSoN, of Corning, in the county of Steuben, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Illuminating Burning Fluid which I denominate Oarbonized Benzine Fluid; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the ingredients and the proportions thereof, and the manner of compounding the same:
Take thirty-nine (39) gallons of benzine of a specific gravity ranging from 60 to 80, one-half gallon of linseed oil, one-half gallon of spirits of turpentine, two pounds of pulverized rosin, one (1) pound of melted beeswax, one-half pound of gum oamphor, one-half pound of pulverized alum, three-quarters of a pound of sal soda, (but in case the be nzine used is 75 gravity the same amount of caustic potash or dry chloride of calcium may be used.) Mix these articles in substantially the proportions named, and in the same proportions for any greater or lesser quantity, and a beautiful carbonized benzine fluid of great illuminating properties is the product. By this combination the two gases of which benzine is formed are equalized, making them safe and harmonious in combustion. The flame produced by this compound possesses great illuminating power, and is white, clear, smokeless and odorless. This fluid is very cheap, and may be burned in lamps with or without chimneys with entire safety and success.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A carbonized benzine fluid for illuminating purposes, compounded of the ingredients (or equivalents) in the proportions substantially as described.
LORENZO D. FERGUSON.
