117,921. Hughes, J. E. July 5, 1917. Drawings to Specification. Composition fuel.-A fuel, which can be used for burning with a forced draught in fireplaces or for gas manufacture, is made by pulverising " anthracite shale," mixing it with a cementing material containing calcium carbonate such as the waste from caustic soda works or the scum from beetroot sugar works, and with or without peat or other vegetable material, and then pressing the mixture into pellets. Suitable proportions are " anthracite shale " 50 per cent, peat or other vegetable material 40 per cent, and cementing material 10 per cent; but the combustible material may comprise nearly all anthracite or " anthracite shale," or part '' anthracite shale " and part slack, or part " anthracite shale " part slack and part peat or vegetable refuse such as spent tan. When the pellets are burnt in a domestic fireplace a blow lamp is used.
