The man nerof using my device is substantially as follows: Starting with the desk, as shown in Fig. 2, the operator raises the case 92, and the hook 35 engages with the hook 33 and lifts the head-plate 31 until it has the appearance shown in Fig. The open register, which may beany form of blank book conveniently ruled for that purpose, is placed upon the desk 12, with its upper end against or near the rod 20. It will be remembered that as the standards 16 are loosely inserted in the sockets 14 they will readily adapt the plate 31 and the case 22 to registers of different thicknesses and both rest upon the register when they are closed down. The operator then closes down the case 22 until it rests upon and covers one page, say the right page, of the register, leaving the other half for the registration of names of the guests. At the satne time if the case is lowered the head-plate 31 will also be lowered and rest upon the upper end of the book. Upon this head-plate is impressed the name of the hotel and the proprietor thereof and all other printed matter usual upon the head of each page of a register and when it is closed down upon the register will represent the appearance of the top or head of the register having the names of the hotel and the proprietor, &c., thereon. It will be seen by having impressed upon the head-plate the above that it will serve for all registers without any cost of printing upon the upper end of each page of the register. \Vhen the left-hand page is filled with the names of guests, the case 22 is raised and shoved along on the rod 20 until it reaches the plate 16 of the right-hand side and then is lowered to rest upon the left-hand page of the register, leaving the right-hand page free to be registered upon. In this way the advertisements placed upon the case 22 will always be either upon one page of the register or the other and always in sight.

\V-henever there is a desire to have a change in the advertising, the glass can be removed and a new advertising-sheet placed in the frame of the case 22 and the glass reinstated.

llaving now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by letters Iatent, is-

1. In a desk for hotel-registers, a desk, a rod adjustably attached to the upper end of the desk, and an advertising-case loosely attached to said rod and adapted to be shifted from one side to the other of the desk, as and for the purposes shown.

2. In a desk for hotel-registe rs, a desk, sockets attached to the opposite corners of the upper end of the desk, standards adjustably fitting into said sockets, a rod uniting said standards and an advertising-case loosely attached to said rod, whereby the case can be shifted along said rod from one side to the other of the desk, as and for the purposes shown.

3. In a desk for hotel-registers, a desk, at head-plate adjustably attached to the upper end of the desk, and an advertising-case adjustably attached to the upper end of the desk, and adapted to be shifted from one side to the other of the desk as and for the purposes shown.

4. A desk for hotel-registers, consisting of a turn-table, a desk attached to the turn-table, and an advertising-case attached to the upper end of the desk and adapted to be shifted from one side to the other ofthe desk.

5. A desk for hotel-registers, consisting of a turn-table, a desk attached upon said turntable, and a head-plate adjustably attached to the upper end of the desk, and adapted to rest on the upper end of open registers of different thicknesses, as and for the purposes shown.

6. A desk for hotel-registers, consisting of a turn-table having ball-bearings, a desk secured at an angle to said turn-table, a headplatc adjustably attached to the upper end of said desk, and an advertising-case adjustably attached to the upper end of the said desk and adapted to be shifted from one side to the other of the desk, as and for the purposes shown.

7. A desk for hotel-registers, consisting of a turn-table, the upper plate of which is grooved on its underside,ball-bearings traveling in said groove and upon the lower plate, a desk secured at an angle to said turn-table, a head-plate adjustably attached to the end of the said desk, sockets in the corners of said desks, standards in said sockets, a rod connecting said standards, and an advertisingcase loosely fastened to the rod and adapted to be shifted from one side to the other of the desk, as and for the purposes shown.
