UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDlVARD F. MELLON, OF MCDONALD, PENNSYLVANIA.
SYRlNGE-NOZZLEI SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 631,899, dated August 29, 1899.
Application filed March 31, 1898. b'erial No. 676,015. (N0 odel-l To all whrmt it nuty concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. MELLON, a citizen of the United States. of America, residing at McDonald, in the county of WVashington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syringe-Nozzles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference b'eing had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in syringe-nozzles.
The invention has for its object the provision of a novel and useful form of syringenozzle for medical purposes, and is particularly adapted for use by patients afflicted with constipation and is constructed in the most convenient form for that particular use.
With the above object in view the invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter more particularly described in detail. 1
In describing the invention in detail refer- 'ence is had .to the accompanying drawings,
forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference designate like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a side View of my improved nozzle. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same shown in section.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a tube, of hard rubber or other suitable material, upon one end of which is formed the threaded thimble portion 1', by which connection is made with the screw-plug at the end of the rubber syringe-tube. The opposite end of this tube is turned upwardly at A right angles, so as to form the nipple 2, and
an opening 3 extends through the tube and nipple for the passage of the liquid. At the base of this nipple is formed the cup 4, which I prefer to make of an oblong form, with one end somewhat smaller than the other, the small end of which is toward the tube, as shown. At the under side of this cup and beneath the tube is formed the foot 5, which is rounded off at its under side. This foot forms a rest for the device when in use.
In practice the device is used in connection with the syringe, as heretofore, excepting after placing the nozzle in position the patient sits down upon a chair, with the foot 5 resting upon the chair and the tubular body portion projecting frontward. The cup 4 prevents any leakage of the liquid during operation.
Having thus fully shown and described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a syringenozzle comprising a tubular body portion 1, having at one of its ends an interiorly-threaded portion 1' and at its opposite end the upwardly-turned nipple 2, cup 4 and knob or foot 5 having a rounded base, all constructed.
of a single piece of material arranged and combined substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
E. F. MELLON.
