Description

@uitrit 1-attav geteilt I ffirr;
GEORGE A. KEENE, 0F BOSTON,4 MASSACHUSETTS, .ASSIGNOR To HIMSELF AND JQSEPH E. -MANNINGQ OF SAME PLACEl l LemnPaemN0. 63,164, dated March 26, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT 1N NECK-TIES.
To ALL wHoM 1T MAY coMoERN:
. Be it known-that I, GEORGE A. KEENE, of Boston, inthe county of Suffolk, and State ol' Massachusetts, have' invented a new and useful Paper Neck-Tie and I do hereby declare-that the :following is a full, clean, and exact description of the construction and gperation of the same, reference' beinghad to the accompanying draw- `ings, forming 'a part of this specification, in which-f Figure lis a front elevation.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross-section. Figure 3 is an elevation'ot' the 'clinch-bar and elastic ring; and Figure 4, a vertical .cross-section. v 'In the manufacture of paper neck-ties as' improved by me, I form the how Ifrom a single straight strip of paper, either of uniform color plainly embossed, or embossed or'prin'te'd Vin patterns of any" desirable color or character, as shown at A, figs. v1, 2, and 4. Around the, centre of Vthis bow, when folded, -I place a band, B, -plain or suitably embossed or printed, and punch holes in the ends thereof, and through one,t\vo, or three thicknesses ot thebow at its centre, when folded and nearthe bottom of wing-piece-C, to allow of the passage of a rubber loop. 'These holes are shown at h, gs. 2 and 4:.l I then take, the I*clinch-har e, shown at fig. 3,.place upon it the elastic ring d, pass saidring. through holes L and press the ends ff 'of 'the clinch-bar e through the ,tie-stri, A, the knot-band and the win ieee u settin their ends and fastenin all rml together. Instead P v gp P g g y e of fastening bythe clinch-bar e, van eyelct may be used, though not with as good advantage, and in lieu ofthe folded bow-piece A, a singlepiece with ends ofany desirable shape or ornament, crossed by the knot-band, may
- clinchbar, as shown, illustrated, and described.
be used, put together in the same way by the1 clinch-bar, thusvsimulating the square knot, granny knot, or sailors knot, 'or the fountain tie."
I disclaim the'form and arrangementI of metallic clasps s how'n by Elias Childs in his patent of May 22, A. D. 1866, and also the method ot attaching the elastic loop' used` by him, and the employment of any other elastic loop save an unbroken ring, for this only do I consider'advantalgeous and cheap when employed with my device; and
I claim as'uyinvcntion, and desire to secureby Letters Patent- Fastening wing-piece, knot-band, and tie-*strip Atogether,'and attaching the elastic ring by means of the GEO. A. KEENE. l*
