THE NORRIS PETERS co. Puo o'umo. msumarcn, n. c.
UNITED ATENT Fries.
VALENTIN BAUER, OF HflCIIST-ON'lHE-MAIN, GERMANY.
BRONZING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 630,440, dated August 8, 1899.
Application filed January 24, 1899. Serial No. 703,250. (No model.)
To all w/wm it may concern:
Be itknown that I, VALENTIN BAUER, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, residing at I-Iochst-on-the-Main,Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bronzing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification. j
This invention relates to bronzing apparatus, the object being to provide a new, simple, and very useful apparatus in which the bronze or like material is contained in a movable box housed in asuitable casing, the bottom of which is provided with a suitable lining of soft material for scouring and dusting the bronzed surface, and the bottoms of said bronze-containing box and easing are provided with suitable outlets normally held in closed position and adapted to be opened by a very simple arrangement, construction, and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, aud specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In order that the invention may be the more readily understood and carried into practical elfect, reference is hereby made to the accompanying illustrative drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bronzing apparatus. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-sectional view, and Fig. 3 a verticallongitudinal sectional View, of same. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the apparatus with the lid, frame, and lining removed.
In the drawings like letters refer to like parts throughout all the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the outer casing, and B the inner box, adapted to be reciprocated Within said casing-A. The outer casing A is of substantially rectangular form or shape, with horizontally-projecting bottom flanges A running all around said casing and provided with a central longitudinal slot D for the purpose hereinafter described.
Theunder side of the bottom of said casing A is lined'with a wadding O or equivalent, surrounded or covered with plush or like soft material L, and the latter is secured to the bottom A by means of strips K, placed adjacent to longitudinal slot D,vertically-projecting pins A extending from the upper side of bottomA and near the edges thereof, and a rectangular frame S, preferably triangular in cross-section, said strips K being secured to the bottom A by means of removable pins, as indicated by M and N in the drawings, or in any other suitable way.- The inner box B is also preferably rectangular in shape and of smaller size than oasin g A, so as to be adapted to be reciprocated in a transverse direction within said casin g. To this end the front side of box B is provided with a button 0, having a shoulder H, and the shank of which extends through a corresponding opening in the front side of easing A. Said button 0 may be secured to box B in any suitable way. The rear side of said box has secured thereto a suitable spring G, bearing against the inner face of the rear side of casing A to bring box B back to the left (in Fig. 2) as the same is moved to the right by pressing on button 0 for the purpose presently pointed out. The bottom of box B has one or more longitudinal slot or slots E of suitable size, normally closed by the bottom of easing A, but adapted to register with slot-D of casing A as box B is moved forward. The latter is closed at its upper part bya plate R, the breadth of which is equal to the inner width of easing A and which is provided with depending flanges and a suitable spring P, secured thereto. Casing A is also closedby a plate or lid Q, pressing on spring P to hold the bottom of box E in perfect contact with the bottom of casing A, and said plate or lid Q may be removably secured on said casing A in any preferred manner.
The operation of my improved .bronzing apparatus is as follows: The box B is first filled with bronze and the lid R then placed in position upon said box and the lid Q, secured on casing A. The apparatus is then placed with the plush lining upon the surface to be bronzed and the button C moved inward untilshoulder H thereof abuts against the wall of easing A, whereby slot or slots E will be moved in position to register with slot D to let out a sufficient quantity of bronze. Now the button 0 is released, whereby the box E will be moved again to its normal position by the action of spring G, and the slot or slots E therefore brought away from slot D, when the apparatus is moved across the surface to be bronzed to remove the surplus of bronze by. the plush lining.
As it is evident that many changes in the would have it understood that I do not re-' strict myself to the particular construction and arrangement of parts shown and described, but that changes and equivalents may be substituted therefor.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a bronzing apparatus, the combination with a casing, the bottom of which is provided with a longitudinal slot, and a wadding or lining secured to the under side of said bottom at either side of said slot, of a box arranged and adapted to be reciprocated transversely within the casing and provided .in its bottom with a slot adapted to register with the first-mentioned slot at a point in the transverse movement of the inner box, means for operating the latter to move it in one direction, and means for returning the said box in the opposite direction.
2. In a bronzing apparatus the combination with a casing the bottom of which is provided with a longitudinal slot, horizontallyprojecting flanges secured to the casing as described, and a wadding or lining secured to the under side of said bottom and flanges at either side of the slot, of a box arranged and adapted to be reciprocated transversely within the casing and provided in its bottom with a slot adapted to register with the first-mentioned slot atapoint in the transverse movement of the inner box, means for operating the latter to move it in one direction, means for returning the said box in the opposite direction, and a lid removably attached to the outer casing. v
3. In a bronzing apparatus, the combination with a casing the bottom of which is provided with a longitudinal slot, and a wadding or. lining secured to the under side of said bottom at either side of said slot, of abox arranged and adapted to be reciprocated transversely within the casing and provided in its bottom with a slot adapted to register with the first mentioned slot at a point in the transverse movement of the inner box, a push-button secured to the inner box, the shank whereof extends through the side of the outer casing, a spring bearing upon the rear sides of the outer casing and the box to force the latter in one direction, alid removably secured to the outer casing, and a spring bearing upon the said lid and the top of the inner box to force the bottom of the latter into contact with the bottom of the outer casing.
