TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it-known that I, JOHN BROWN ALDEN, of Worcester, in the county of VVorcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a. new and useful improvement in Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This in'vention relntes tothe manner in which the stalk of the brush is constructed, and it consists making the body of the stalk of the brush in two pieces, which are pivoted together, whereby the brush can bereversed or changed endt'or end, as will hereinafter appear. 4 i I Figure 1 represents the brush as it appears when ready for use.

A represents the-brush attached to a piece of wood, B, or other material, in the usual manner, and which piece forms at part of the stalk. O is the other pnrtof the stalk, and D is the handle of the brush. E is at pivot, (or a screw which forms a. pivot,) which passes through C, ztndvupon which the piece or the brush turns. The two pieces B C are held together by the pivot E, and by a screw or pin, a, which is inserted to prevent the brush from turning when it is in use. When the outer end of the brush becomes worn end useless the screw a is withdrawn, when the brush can be reversed or turned round and the other end used, thus making the brush about twice as durable as it otherwise would be.
