Description

' F. BABCOCK.
Cooking Stove.
No. 6,292. Patented April 10. 1849. Y
N PETERS Plwmumoyu her. Washinglnm D. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FITCH R. BABCOOK, OF WESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
COOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 6,292, dated April 10, 1849.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FITCH R. BABCOOK, of West-field, Hampden county, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Oven and Furnace, to which I have given the name of Fire King Oven and Furnace; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a common oven of cylindrical or other convenient form with a furnace placed within it. The oven is provided With a perforated plate upon which is fixed circular revolving tables and also a short cylinder through Which the furnace passes and also through the center of the main body of the oven. At the bottom of the furnace is a movable grate operated by a lever. At the top of the furnace is placed a second furnace for boiling, heating fiatirons and for other purposes.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct first an oven of any suitable material in any convenient form resting upon legs having doors upon opposite sides and opening perpendicularly through the center. furnace is represented in the drawing.
Figure 1 represents the whole apparatus cut in two, the section is a view of one of the halves.
A represents the cylindrical furnace in which fire is placed for baking passing through the center of the perforated plate G also through the cylinder F and the center of oven.
J is a second or upper furnace placed upon the top of the oven.
B is the smoke escape in which is placed a damper O as seen in the drawings.
R is the grate in the upper furnace J upon The main body of the oven andwhich may be placed a fire for boiling, heating fiatirons and other uses.
D D, is the mica lights by which light is admitted into the oven by which means the process of baking may be seen, and by using the movable grate the heat may be regulated without opening the doors C.
Cylinder F is a preventative against burning when the oven is overheated, also the revolving tables E E are to change the sides of the articles baking by means of a rod or aXis attached to E and passing through the bottom of the oven and bent into a crank z' i as seen in Fig. 1.
P is the lower grate attached to a lever H by means of which it is raised and lowered at pleasure. To the underside of this lower grate is attached a flange or ring which operates as a damper to close the drafthole L to when it is let down.
H is the lever attached to the lower grate.
M M is the handles to the oven.
G is the perforated plate, N N is the holes in the perforated plate so as to admit of a free circulation of air between the space below the perforated plate and above it.
In using this oven a fire is kindled upon the movable grate in the cylindrical furnace and whatever is to be baked is placed upon the revolving tables within the body of the oven.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. The combination of the perforated plate G with the revolving tables E E and cylinder F for the purposes above set forth.
2. I also claim as my invention-the manner of using the movable grate adjusted by a lever in the bottom of the cylindrical furnace.
