SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 628,874, dated July 11, 1899.

Application filed September 21, 1898. Serial No. 691,517. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, CAROLINE CATHARINE MATHILDE XVAGNER, a citizen of the free city of Hamburg, residingat Bergedorf, Hamburg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spooling Devices for Sewing-Machines, (for which I have applied for patents in England August 12, 1898; in Germany August 5., 1898; in Austria August 11, 1898; in Hungary August 10, 1898; in France August 10, 1898; in Belgium August 10, 1898, and in Switzerland August 8, 1898,) of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device on sewing-machines by which bobbins and similar articles such as are used in lace-making and other operations may be 'spooled or wound.

.By this device, which can be easily attached to any sewing-machine, a separate spooling device is rendered unnecessary and the spooling is greatly accelerated, because by means of the sewing-machine a larger number of revolutions is obtainable than with the ordinary hand spooling devices.

In order that this invention may be the better understood, I now proceed to describe the same,reference beinghad tothe accompanying drawings and to the letters marked thereon.

Figure 1 is a part sectional side view of the apparatus, and Fig. 2 is a view of a modified form thereof. v

As shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, a sleeve 12, bored conically at both ends, is placed on the revolving pin a, of the machine by one conical bore of the sleeve 1), the other bore serving to hold one end of the bobbin 0.

To the plate cl of the machine is adjustably attached an arm g, sliding in a slotfand secured by a screw 6. The arm 9 is bent upward at one end to support the other end of the bobbin 0.

In order to render it unnecessary to make a separate arm 9 for each machine, and, further, to adapt the supporting end of the arm 9 to the required height of the bobbin, an adj usting-piece 70 is attached to the arm g by a screw h passing through a slot of the piece It and screwed into the arm g, so that the bearing-hole of the piece It can be easily adj usted to the required height for the bobbin. This adjustability may alternatively be effected, as shown inFig. 2 of the drawings,

by slotting the bent end of the arm g and providing a screw 0, having a bearing-plate Z, so as to be adjustable upward and downward by means of nuts m n. This arrangement allows also of a slight s'ideward adjustment.

When it is desired to spool or wind a bobbin 1 c, the arm 9 is screwed to the machine and adjusted longitudinally by means of the screw 6. The bearing for the bobbin 0 is then adjusted to its correct position by adjusting the piece or the screw 0, so that spooling may commence.

When the device is not required, it is easily removed from the machine .by loosening the screw 6. The machine is therefore not disturbed for sewing operations.

- What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. In a spooling attachment for sewingmachines, the combination of a pin, means for revolubly mounting the same on the sewing-machine so as to drive the pin from the movement of the sewing-machine, the pin being adapted to carry a bobbin, a headed screw working in the base of the sewing-machine, a slotted plate adjustably held by the screw and extending horizontally, and means in connection with said plate for adjustably and revolubly holding the outer end of the bobbin.

2. In a spooling attachment for sewingmachines, the combination of a pin, means for revolubly mounting the pin, such means being attached to the sewing-machine frame, the pin being adapted to carry the bobbin, a headed screw attached to the base of the: machine, a slotted plate adjustably held by the screw and extending horizontally, the plate having an upwardly-extending arm at its outer end, and a bearing-section adj ustably mounted on the arm of the plate and adapted to hold the outer end of the bobbin.
