SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 628,706, dated July 11 1899. Application iled March 13, 1899. Serial No. 708,912. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH O. GOU'LD, a citiL zen of the United States, residing at Farmer City, in the county of De Witt and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toe-Weights, of which the following is a specification. j
My invention relates to improvements in toe-Weights, the object being the provision of a Weight which can be easily applied to the hoof of the horse to regulate the gait and increase the speed and which can be quickly adjusted as circumstances dictate.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a toe-Weight which cannot become detached under any conditions and which will be the embodiment of simplicity, durability, and inexpensiveness. i
To attain the desired objects, the invention consists of a toe-Weight embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.

In the drawings, A designates the base of my improved toe-Weight, having the spurs or Wings B provided with openings to receive fastenings C for securing the device in position. The plate is further provided With the lug D, Which passes under the hoof, as shown, and the upper portion or stem of the plate is provided with a slot E and with the sockets' or recesses F, having each the keeper G.
The toe-Weight II is provided With the upper ear J adapted to t in the slot E and be held in the upper or lower end of said slot by means of the key or fastening K, and the other end of the Weight is provided with the catch or lock L, adapted to engage either of the keepers G, by which construction the Weight can be adjusted as circumstances require.
From this construction it Will be seen that I provide a toe-Weight which can be readily applied and which can be quickly adjusted to suit the gait of the horse and increase the speed and which by reason of its attractiveness and simplicity is rendered thoroughly practical.
I claim l. A toe-Weight consisting ofthe attachingplate, provided with the slot or channel and the keepers, the toe-Weight having the ear adjustable in said slot and the catch or lock for engaging said keepers to secure the Weight at any adjustment.
2. A toe-Weight consisting of the attachingplate provided With the spurs or Wings, and
the slotted stem having the keepers, the toe- Weight having the ear adjustably secured in said slot and having the lock or catch for engaging the keepers.
