to Ann .wnon IT AY coroner:
Be it known that I, HEMAN'S- Ssow, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, havcinve nted a new Improvement in Boot Heels; and I do hereby declare the following, when-taken in connectionwith'the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be afull, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawin s constitute part of this specification, and represent, in--- Figure 1, aside view. Figure 2, a bottom view looking up Figure 3, a longitudinal central sectionfand in Figure 4, a top View of the heel, the heel plate removed. This invention relates to an adjustable heel for boots or shoes, and consists in the peculiar constructiim, whereby the heel may be-turn ed to several positions and held securelyin-these' positions and to enable others to construct and use my improvement, I-will proceed to describe the same as illustrated in the accomnanving drawings. v l I A is the sole, B the heel-plate, and C the heel. The heel itself is formed circular and of proportions according to the size of the boot or shoe it is constructed with arim, which forms the edge of the heel, and so as to fit upon the heel-plate B, as seen in fig. 3. Centrally in the heel is formed a cavity, D, into which is placed an elastic substance, and centrally therethrough a screw, E, is placed and turned into thehehplate B, which secures the heel to the plate. In the upper edge of the heel, as seen in .fig. 4, are formed notches a, more or less in number, and upon a heel-plate a single projection, d, fig. 3, corresponding to one ofthe hatches on-the heel, so that when the heel is turned to such position that the projection 02 enters oneof the notches a, the heel is firmly held in that position by the spring or elastic substance under the screw-head, and, yet, so that the wearer may by a little effort turn the heel so that a second-notch, a, would catch upon the projection d, and thus the heel is adjustable to' any desired point. .The heel-plate B is attached to the sole of the boot in any convenient manner, then the heel is placed thereon and secured, as. seen in fig. 3, and, if preferred, so that the edge of the heel shall cover the edge of the heel-plate B, Y
I construct the heel from metal orany suitable material.
. I do not broadly claim a heel constructed so'as to be revolved, but having thus fully described my invention, what I do claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by'Letter Patent, is-
The combination of the heel C, with its notches a, more or less, and the heel-plate B, with its projection 41, when constructed and arranged so as to be adjustable to dill'erent points, and secured at such points by a spring, arranged substantially in the manner herein set forth. I
