To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that we, EDWARD W. BALL and LOUIS E. VAoHERoN, of Woodhaven, borough of Queens, city of New of Queens, vented certain new and useful Improvements in sinks, of which the renewing is a specification. i
discharge-pipe B, leading therefrom and covin the ered by a loose removable strainer O.
D is the overfiow, having its lower legI suib,- stan tially horizontal and its discharge-orifice E leading to the discharge-pipe 1J and adapted to discharge liquid thereinto, which liquid A l enters the overfiowat F-the inlet end thereof.
Our invention relates to sinks, and has for The discharge-orice E of ther overflow is its object to produce a structure wherein, sl while refuse mayhavea free and unobstructed G, flow to the drain-pipe, the overfiow isl protected from being filled with refuse.
The invention will be explained with reference tothe accompanying drawings, which show a sink embodying' o.ur'invention.
In the drawings, Figure lis a sectional detail view of a form of sink which we have devised; and Fig.2 is a broken-'away sectional plan view of the same, the section of Fig. l being taken on the line l l of Fig. 2 and the section of Fig. 2 being taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Heretofore sinks have been devised in which the overflow pipe or passage `discharges directly into the discharge-pipe of the sink be; low -the strainer, the openinglofthe overiow charge-pi pe below the mouth Eof the overliow.
It will b shown all apertures conducted through the open unobstructed discharge-.pipe B past the orice E of the overiiowD to the lower portion B of the dischargepipe, so that there will be no chance for the said refuse to lodge in the orifice E, and con sequently the overflow will open and unrestricted. the strainer O becomes stopped up for any readily understood. It will thus -bc obvious that we have provided a sink or basin wherein the overflow will at all times be operative to carry oi the excess of water. l
Having described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
-In combination strainer,
it was quite an easy matter for the dischargeopening of the overbecome entirely choked up, renderingr the overflow useless, so that when the oversink or basin havinga substantially horizontal leg leading by an orithe dischargepipc I5, a loose reinto the discharge-pipe and extending below said orilice and lthe loose removable covering and bearing upon the EDWARD WQBALL. to the drain-pipe :may be eiciently protected from the deposit therein of refuse. These ends are accomplished by covering the discharge-orifice of the overflow by an imperforate open unobstructed thimble contained within the discharge-pipe of the sink.
