Description

ALFRED A. WAGNER, OF.A ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CHRISTMAS- TREE STAND.
specification roaming Vpiatti Letters intent No. essere, dated .rune 6,1899.
Application filed December 5, 1 89 Tb r/,ZZ whom :It may concern:
(Bc it known that I, ALFRED A. WAGNER, of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Christinaslree Stands, of which the following is a tuli, clear, and exact descripti an, reference heing had to the accom panying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to Christmas tree stands; and it consists of the novel construetio n, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown, described, and claimed.
Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved Christmas-tree stand. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View taken approximately on the`line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
In tire construction of the device, as shown, 1 indicates a. dat ring..the inneredgeofwhifch isrpl'ovided with a doWnWardly-pendin g flan ge 2, the lower end of which lia-nge is extended inwardlya slight distance, as indicated by l3. This ring 1 is mounted upon suitable legs or standards 4.
5 indicates a rnetaliic cup, in the center of the hottoniot which is an upwardly-projecting spur or attenuated pin 6, and projectdownwardly from the lower end ofwsaid cup is a screw-threaded pin 7, the lower end otL` which is formed into a conical bearing 8, that engages upon a suitable bearing-plate 9. Located upon the pin 7, immediately against the under side of the cup 5, is a gear-wheel g the saine being locked in position by means of a nut 11, that is located upon the screw- 'threadcd pin 7.
Passing through the' wall of the upper end ol the cup 5 at equal distances apart are screw-bolts 12, the inner ends of which are attenuated, aiid't'orined onthe exterior surface of the cup at a peint in alinement with the lower end ot theiiange2 is anoutwardlyprojecting' rib or fia-nge 13.
Villen the cup 5 is correctly positioned within the trame comprising the ring l and the standards et, a plurality of balls 14 are interposed between said cup and the flange-2, said balls resting upon the inwardly-projecting flange 55 and outwardly-projccting iiange 151, and thus a baitbcarin g is formed between he ring l and cup 5.
a. sarta No. 698,305. (No man.)
A suitable motor is secured to one of the legs or standards ,11, and projecting a slight distancefrom said motor' is a driven pinion .16, which meshes with the gear-wheel l0.
VVhen my improved Christmas-tree stand isin use, the lower end of a tree is located in the cup 5, and said tree is centered in said cup by engaging said lower end upon the spur bolts12 are somanipulated as that they will engage in the portion of the tree opposite the upper end of the cup 5. After the tree has 'been so positioned the motor 15 is started, and as the pinion 1G, carried by said motor` 15, meshes with the gear-wheel 10 rotary motion is imparted to said gear-wheel 10 and the cup 5, and the entire Christmas tree is slowly ro- ,tatedtP It. desired, water may be placed in the cup 5, which water is naturally absorbed by the tree, thereby keeping the tree in a comparatively fresh state for a considerable length of time.
A Christmas-tree stand of my improved construction occupies but little floor-space, is simple in construction and operation, holds the tree in a perfectly upright position, and displays the tree and lights and decoration carried therebyin an attractive and pleasing manner.
I clairn- A Christmas-tree sta nd,comprising the ring 1, legs supporting said ring, the fiange 2 integral with and projecting downwardly from jecting inwardly from the lower edge of said flange 2, the cupl 5 loosely arranged within said ring l, the ange 13 projecting outwardly the balls 14 arranged between the flange 2 and the periphery of the cup 5, which balls rest upon the iianges 3 and 13, means carried by said cup for engaging the lower end of the tree-trunk, and means whereby said cup is rotated,y substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I alix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED A. XVAGNER. W'itnesses:
