PICTURE-EXHIBITOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,939, dated May 30, 1899.

Be it known that I, ALFRED PETERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Exhibitors, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this inventionis to construct a picture-exhibitor in which'the frames holding the pictures are alternately exposed to view and reversed.

In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved pictureexhibitor. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section. Fig. 3 is a plan view with the cover removed. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the operating mechanism. Fig. 5 is a transverse section on dot ted line a, Fig. 4.

The base 1 is of rectangular form, having a recessed top within which is located the operating mechanism, consisting of the sliding block 2, guided between the cleats 8. A pin 4 extends vertically from one end of the block. A guldeway 5 is located at right angles to the sliding block 2,'and a movable head 6 is guided in the guideway and has an upwardlyextending pin 7 at one end. The ends of this movable head are rounded. To the upper surface of the guideway is pivoted a bar 8, having a central recess 9, the ends 10 and 11 being rounded. A rod 12 connects this bar with the sliding block 2. Pulleys 13, 14, 15, and 16 are supported to revolve in the base. A cord 17 passes over the pulleys 13 and 14, one end connected to the movable head 6, and a cord 18 passes over the pulleys 15 and 16, one end connected to the movable head.

The upper portion of the picture-exhibitor is composed of the sides 19 and removable top 20. The sides are of doublethickness, leaving a space for the reception of pictures, openings 21 being formed in the outer wall, through which the pictures may be seen. A semicylindrical block 22 is placed within the upper compartment, so that its flat surface 23 and one of the sides of the upper portion will form the compartment 24. The side of the upper portion opposite this compartment has a curvedwa1l 25, a portion 26 of which extends into the compartment and which, in connection with the semicylindrical block 22, forms a semicircular groove 27. By drawing on the cord 18 the pin 7 will engage the picture-holder lying in its path, which will move the holders located in the semicircular groove 27 until the end of the movable block comes in contact with the end 11 of the pivoted bar, and the further pull on the cord will move the pivoted bar and im= part a sliding movement to the sliding head, which in turn will move the pivoted block 28 into the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 3, and will move the holder from the compartment into the groove and the holder at the other end of the groove into the compart ment between the pivoted block 28 and the other holders. By drawing on the cord 17 the movable head will be returned to its origi-- nal position and the pivoted block 28 moved into contact with the holders by the end of the movable block engaging the end 10 of the pivoted bar. This movement of the pivoted block will force all of the picture-holders in the compartment toward the oppositeend of the compartment, so as to present a new holder in position to be operated upon by the pin 7, rising from the movable block 6.

In moving the picture-holders from the point of view to the rear of the compartment 24 the faces of the holders will be reversed, and as each holder supports two pictures both pictures maybe seen.

In Fig. 1 the picture-holders are shown 10- cated upon a stand 30 and the cords 17 and IS-connectedwith the foot-pedals 3 1 and 32, respectively, so that the picture-holders can be moved by the feet.

I claim as my invention 1. In a picture-exhibitor, the combination of a base, an upper portion located on the base, having a compartment, its ends connected by a semicircular groove, pictureholders located within the compartment and standing in a vertical position, a movable ing the holders from the compartment into the semicircular groove, asliding block moving the holders to the opposite end of the compartment, the head and block having a linked connection, and pedals for moving the movable head.
