SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 522,072, dated J' une 26, 1 894.

To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENEEY H. MATT, of Long Island City, in the countyof Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Railroad-Switch, of which the fol-k lowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention is an improvement in the class of railroad switches which are adapted to be operated from a car while in motion.
To these ends my invention consistsot certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described'and claimed.
Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is aplan view of a track provided with my improved switchI and working mechanism. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.A Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the lever mechanism for working the switch point; and Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. t
The railroad has the usu'al track rails 10 from which extend the siding rails 11, and
at the junctionof the track and siding Arails is the usual swingingswitch point 12 which is fulcrumed, as shown at 12a on the bed plate 13, which on top is of the usual construction, but which has beneath its top surface a chamber 14 in which is fulcrumed a lever 15, one end of which is pivoted to the switch rail, as shown at 16 the pivot moving in a suitable slot in the bed Iplate 13, and the lever 15 is fulcrumed near the center on a pin 17 which enters a slot 1-8 in the lever.
To one end of the lever 15 ispivoted a connecting rod 19 which extends parallel with the track rails, and is at its opposite end pivoted to one end of a contact arm 20 which is v fulcrumed at the center, as shown at 21, and
projects into parallel grooves 23 ot' the guide plate 22 on which is a rail Asection 10ZL forming a continuation on one of the rails 10. The pin 19' connecting the rod 19 with the lever 20,`moves in a slot 22qd in the plate 22 described above. The section 10a is located midway on the plate 22 so that the guide grooves 23 come on each side of it. The lever 2O projects into these grooves, and it will be seen that when the lever is tilted laterally, the rod 19 is moved, the lever 15 oscillated and the switch point 12 thrown to `one side or the other, this depending upon'which end of the lever 2O is struck.
The lever 20 may be operated` by any suitable device which may be pushed down from a car so4 as to enter the grooves 23, and in order that the said devices may slide freely out of Ythe grooves they are provided with inclined bottoms at the ends, as shown at 24 in'Fig. 2; Having thus described my invention, I
