.To all wltom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN K. C. DE AN- GUERA, of Wakefield, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Venskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in ventilators, and has more particular relation to ventilators adapted to be detachably applied to windows.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the device embodying my invention in its open position with the curtain partly raised. Fig. 2 represents a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 represents an enlarged detail perspective view of the end guards provided with a plurality of adj ustingapertures and a locking-pin, and Fig. 4 represents a central vertical section through my said improvement. Said frame 1 is formed of two sections 4 and 5, respectively, hinged together, as at 6, by any suitable form of hinges. The small end section 5 is adapted to be opened in position when the device is applied to the window, so that the frame may extend fully into the respective beads formed on the opposite sides of the windowand be thus held firmly in position. The object of this construction is to prevent the entrance of any direct'draft into the room being ventilated. I preferably provide the outer ends of the frames 4 and 5 with binding-strips 14, whereby they will fit more snugly between the beads and the window-frame, and thus prevent any rattling of the attachment. The upper and lower edges of said frames 4 and 5 are respectively inclined, as shown in the drawings, so that the frame when applied to a window will assume a slightly-inclined position, with its distance above the upper edge of the opening lower inclined edge resting fiat upon the inclined sill and its upper edge squarely against the flat under side of the window-frame. By
this means the frame is jammed firmly between the respective beads of the windowframe, should it not be of a width equal to the groove of said beads, because of the inclined position assumed by it.
By means of my improvement all .direct draft into a room is avoided and at the same time a perfect ventilatorprovided, which will prevent the entrance of all flies or other insects.
The device is very simple and cheap in construction and operation, but at the same time very effective, as it may be instantly applied or detached from a window and the quantity of air regulated by the adjustment of the hinged guard. By the peculiar construction of the hinged guard, whereby it is caused to extend considerably above the upper edge of the openin g 8, all air entering through said opening is forced upward in an inclined direction, and all direct draftinto the room thus prevented.

Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with an apertured ventilator-frame, of triangular or sector-shaped plates secured to the frame, one at each end of the aperture and forming end guards there for, a guard-plate hinged to the frame below the aperture to swing in and out between the rigid end guards, means for engaging said hinged guard for looking it at any desired adjustment, a reticulated covering for the aperture in the frame, and a flexible, absorbent curtain adjustable on a roller journaled on the frame directly above the aperture therein, for the purpose and substantially as described.
