WINDOW VENT ILATOR Filed Jan. 26, 1928 mi C/@ZMQRJ Patented June 4, 1929.
JOSEPH C. ROBICHA'UID, OF WOODIFORD, MAINE.
WINDOW VENTILATOR.
Application led January 26, 1928.
This'invention relates to new and useful improvements in window ventilators, and aims to provide an improved ventilator that is built directly within the window frame so that air may pass into and from a room while the window is completely closed, the
structure being further such that flies or insects or other foreign matter cannot pass into the room from the outside. Furthermore, flo heavy drafts of wind will be prevented, and
due to the structure of the device snow or rain cannot enter even though the ventilator be in open position.
One of the most important objects is the provision of a ventilator of this character that may be built directly into a window frame without materially increasing the cost of the window and without interfering with the proper fitting of the window or the opening or closing of the same within the buildingvframe.
ith the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
' Figure l is a fragmentary inner side elevation of the lower end of a sliding or swinging window sash, the frame of which is constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a detail longitudinal section taken substantially upon the line 2--2 of Figure l, the ventilator being disclosed in open position, and
Figure 3 is a similar fragmentary view disclosing a ventilator as closed.
New having particular reference to the drawings, 5 designates the frame of a sliding or swinging sash, the lower frame bar of which is formed in the present instance with spaced longitudinally extending circular openings 6.
Arranged upon the inner side of the lower Vmember of the sash frame is an elongated `strip 7 of wood or other .suitablematerial lto be understood that some changes may be ySerial No. 249,661.
that is also formed with longitudinally spaced circular openings 8 adapted for registry with the openings 6 in the window frame as disclosed in Figure 2. This strip 7 is 55 preferably of laminated construction, while arranged between the laminations is a length of fine mesh screen 9 to prevent the passage of insects, or large particles of dirt throughthe openings 8. 60
I At opposite ends of this strip 7 the same is formed with .elongated slots 10-10, while arranged through said slots and secured to the frame 5 are pins 11-11 that secure the sliding strip 7 in close relation with the 65 frame 5, and at the saine time permit the longitudinal movement of the strip from the open position disclosed in Figure 2 .to the closed position disclosed in Figure 3. Obviously, when the strip is arranged in the position indicated in Figure 2, the openings in the sash frame 5 and the strip are in registration so as to permit the air to enter or 'leave the room whereas when the strip is moved to the position indicated in Figure 3 the openings are out of registration to close the passages through said window frame.
Said sliding strip 7 is equipped intermediate its ends with any suitable character of operating handle or knob 12.
In view of the foregoing description when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it will be apparent that I have provided a highly novel, simple and useful window ventilator that is well adapted y for all the purposes heretofore designated, even though I have hereinL shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements it is nevertheless made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a window ventilator of the character described wherein the window frame is formed with spaced longitudinal openings, a pair of pins secured to the window frame at opposite ends of the openings, a strip of material arranged upon the inner side of l the window frame within the contines of said openings and having longitudinal slots at its opposite ends through which said pins project whereby said strip may be slid longitudinally upon the Window, said strip having spaced openings therein for registry with the openings in the window frame when the stripl is moved into one position, said strip being of laminated construction, and a length of Wire screening arranged between the laminations for preventing the passage of 10 foreign matter through the openings in said strip. In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature.
JOSEPH C. ROBICHAUD.
