SPECTFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 624,683, dated May 9, 1 899.
Application filed $eptember 4, 1897- Serial No. 650,581. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN P. REIOHERT, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in tables particularly applicable for use in ironing and cooking, and has for its object the production of a device which is simple in construction and particularly efficient in use; and to this end it consists in the combination, construction, and arrangement of the component parts of atable, as hereinafter fully described,
and pointed out in the claims.
In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which like letters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively side and end elevations of my improved table. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the detached top and brace of said table, and Fig. A is a side elevation of myimproved table shown as provided with a modified construction of top and as having the extension or foot of its supporting-frame folded beneath the main portion of said supporting-frame.
Myimproved table consists of a supporting frame A and a top 13. The frame A is provided with separated uprights a a, which are firmly secured together by suitable crossbars a a Each of the uprights a a may consist of posts arranged side by side and united by suitable cross-bars, and one of said uprights, as the rear one a, is provided with engaging cross-bars a a arranged one above the other. The lower end of the supporting-frame A is provided with an extension a which is hinged at one extremity to the main portion of said supporting frame and is movable beneath said main portion of the supporting-frame, as seen in Fig. 4. The extension a is usually provided with rollers or casters a which project above its normally upper face and engage the floor or other support for the frame A when said extension is folded beneath the main portion of said frame. The top B is generally of greater length than width and is detachably engaged with the frame A. One end of the top B is interposed between the cross bars-a a and the lower face of said top is provided with cleats b b, engaged with the ad jacent or inner faces of the uprights a at.
projections 12, removably mounted in sockets a formed in the free extremity of the extension a My improved table is preferably used in connection with a suitable heater consisting of a frame a and a burner c, and the top B is generally provided with shoulders b on its upper face and with an opening 1) extending therethrough.
The heater-frame c is detachably engaged with the shoulders b and the burner c is formed of less size than the opening 19 and is supported above the top B and beneath the. upperfface of the heater-frame c. The fue is conducted to the burner (3 by a suitable conduit or pipe 0 which is secured to the frame A, and is provided with an upturned extremity arranged in the opening b and connected to said burner.
It is frequently desirable to provide my improved table with a short top, and in that event the heater-frame c is removed from the top B, the free end of the top is'elevated to permit detachment of the lower end of the brace B from the extension a and said top is moved lengthwise for disengaging its inner end from the cross-bars a a and alining its opening 19 with the burner c, whereupon said burner readily passes through the opening I) as the top B is elevated. The brace B is folded upon the top B, as indicated in 'Fig. 3, and the extension a is folded beneath the main portion of the supporting-frame A, as shown in Fig. 4:. A short top B Fig. 4, is then detachably engaged with the supporting-frame A, and the heater-frame c is mounted upon said short top.
The construction and operation of my invention will now be readily understood upon reference to the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings;
Having thus fully described my invention,
' a burner arranged above the top, and a conduit or pipe projecting through the opening, said conduit or pipe being secured to the supporting-frame and connected to the burner, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination with a table comprising a supporting-frame, and a top detachably engaged with the supporting-frame and provided with an opening extending therethrough; of a heater-frame mounted on the top, a burner arranged above the top adjacent to the heaterframe and formed of less size than the opening for permitting the passage of the burner through the opening, and a conduit or pipe projecting through the opening, said conduit or pipe being secured to the supporting-frame and connected to the burner, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination with a table comprising a supporting-frame, and a top detachably engaged with the supporting-frame and provided with an opening extending therethrough and with engaging shoulders on its upper face; of a heater-frame mounted on the top and detach-ably engaged with said shoulders, a burner arranged above the top and adjacent to the heater-frame and formed of less size than the opening for permitting the passage of the burner through the opening, and a conduit or pipe projecting through the opening, said conduit or pipe being secured to the supporting-frame and connected to the burner, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. The combination with a table com prising a supporting-frame provided with separated uprights, one of which is formed with engaging cross-bars arranged one above the other, and a top provided with an opening extending therethrough, said top having one of its ends interposed between said cross-bars and its lower face provided with cleats engaged with the adjacent faces of the uprights; of a heater-frame detachably mounted on the top, a burner arranged. above the top adjacent to the heater-frame, and a conduit or pipe projecting through the opening and connected to the burner, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
5. The combination with a table com prising a supporting-frame provided with separated uprights, one of which is formed with engaging cross-bars arranged one above the other, said supporting-frame being also provided with a movable extension having one of its extremities hinged to the main portion of the supporting-frame, a top detachably engaged with the supporting-frame and provided with an opening extending therethrough, said top having one of its ends interposed between said cross-bars and its lower face provided with cleats engaged with the adjacent faces of the 6. In a table, the combination of a supporting-frame provided with a movable extension at its lower end, said extension being movable beneath the main portion of the supportingframe and provided with rollers, a top detachably engaged with the supporting-frame, and a brace having its lower end detachably engaged with the extension and its upper end hinged to the top, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
7. In a table, the combination of a supporting-frame provided with a movable extension hinged at one extremity to the lower end of the main portion of the supporting-frame,said extension being movable beneath the main portion of the supporting-frame, a top detachably engaged with the supporting-frame, and a brace having its lower end detachably en gaged with the free extremity of the extension and its upper end hinged to the top, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
8. In atable, the combination of a support ing-frame provided with a movable extension hinged at one extremity to the lower end of the main portion of the supporting-frame,said extension being movable beneath the main portion of the supporting-frame and being provided with rollers projecting above its normally upper face, a top mounted on the supporting-frame, and a brace interposed between the free extremity of the extension and the top, substantially as and for the purpose described. V
9. Inatable, the combination of a supporting-frame provided with separated uprights, one of which is formed with engaging crossbars arranged one above the other, said supporting-frame being also provided with a movable extension having one of its extremities hinged to the main portion of the supportingframe, a top detachably engaged with the supporting-frame, said top having one of its ends interposed between said cross-bars and its lower face provided with cleats engaged with the adjacent faces of the uprights, and a brace having its lower end detachably engaged with the free extremity of the extension and its upper end hinged to the top, sub stantially as and for the purpose specified.
10. In a table, the combination of asupporting-frame provided with separated uprights, one of which is formed with engaging crossbars arranged one above the other, said supporting-frame being also provided with a mov able extension having one of its extremities I of the uprights, and a brace having its lower end detachably engaged with the free extremity of the extension and its upperend hinged to the top, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name,in the presence of two attestr5 ing witnesses, at Rochester, in the county of Monroe, in-the State of New York, this 27th day of August, 1897.
