CLAMPING BENCH FOR ICE CREAM FREEZERS.
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT KIRK, OF HARTWELL, OHIO.
CLAMPlNG-BENCH FOR ICE-CREAM FREEZERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 624,343, dated May 2, 1899.
' Application iiled October a, 1898. Serial No. 692,503. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT KIRK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartwell, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clamping-Benches for Ice-Cream Freezers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention, having a freezer-tub mounted thereon; Fig. 2, a top view with the tub removed, the dotted circles showing different sizes of tubs to be accommodated. Fig. 3 is a detail, partly in section; and, Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the device in service.
In the operation of freezing ice-cream with the smaller-sized freezers commonly used in the household great trouble is experienced in holding the freezer stationary while the crank is being turned, the employment of an assistant being in nearly every instance required, and at best the stability of position of the apparatus is uncertain, making the freezing operation very tiresome and greatly to be dreaded.
The objects of my invention are, first,to provide a clamping-bench on which the freezertub can be firmly secured during the freezing operation; second, to afford a seat for the operator whose weight serves to give stability of position to the bench on which the tub is clamped; third, to so adapt the bench and its attachments as to provide for knockdown packing for shipment or storage.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the preferred form of bench-board having transverse under cleats band 0, secured near the extremities. Socket-holes are bored into these cleats to receive the removable legs (1 d d d. A longitudinal slot F is formed in the bench to accommodate the adjustable clamp G. This clamp is formed of two main members 11, being the base-section provided with ear-lugs 2'. An anchor-bolt J depends from the base member through the slot and is provided with a washer and a wing-nut K. A small lug L projects from the clamp-base into the slot to preserve the alinement over the slot. A clamping member M is pivotally connected between the ears of the base member by a transverse pin 17.. This member is preferably formed to somewhat resemble a bird, the beak of which engages against the tub, while a thumb-screw O is threaded through the tail portion, the screw-point bear ing upon the base and tilting the clamping member forward with great power. Forward of the slot and transversely apart are two studs P let into the top of the bench and into the cleat. The heads of these studs form points of bearing for the tub-base, while the beak of the clamp forms the third hearing.
In operation the tub is set on the bench and the clamp is slid to contact and is anchored by the bolt and wing-nut, the thumb-screw being projected just through to allow the clamp-beak to be retired. The thumb-screw then being turned the beak swings forward, crowding the tub-base against the stud-heads, the beak meantime taking an indented hold in the tub, and draws downward as well as pushes forward, holding the tub very solidly. Practicallya moderate tightening of the clamp is ample to hold the tub.
While the clamp herein shown and de scribed is preferred, I do not limit myself to the exact form, several constructions having been used by me in this connection.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In a tub-holding device the combination with a bench provided with a seat portion, legs at each end, an intermediate longitudinal slot, and projecting headed pegs or nails near one end, of a clamping device consisting of a lower thumb-screw for adjustment in said slot and an upper thumb-screw for securing a tub in position, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 1st day of October, 1898.
ROBERT KIRK.
