NOTE-DISK HOLDER FOR MECHA NICAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 623,878, dated April 25, 1899.
Application filed January 7, 1899.
YTo rtl/f 1071.071?, t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDUARD BEEsLAUEE, a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of of Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Note-Disk Holders for Mechanical Music Instrnments,of' which the following is a specication.
My invention refers to improvements in note-disk holders for mechanical music instruments, its object being to simplify the inserti on of the note-disks. For this-purpose I provide for each note-disk a separate holder having swiveled thereto a note-disk carrier to be rotated by the driving-shaft and to which the note-disk is attached in the usual manner. A suitable number of such holders, with carriers and note-disks, are loosely 'mounted on a shaft traversing the casing, arranged in such a manner that any one of them can be brought opposite the end of the driving-shaft and moved up to the latter to bring the drivingshaft into engagement with the disk-carrier, the disk then being in the proper position to operate the reeds.
.The nature of my invention Will be best unf derstood when described in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a front view of a musicbox embodying my invention, the casing being in section. Fig. 2 is a s'ide elevation of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3 3, Fig. l. Fig. 4f is a detail View of the disk-holder, carrier, and disk. Figs. 5 and 6 are front elevation and sectional plan of a modification.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
- In the figures the letter M designates the casing; N, the motor; n, the driving-shaft actuated by the motor, and R the reeds.
A is a shaft traversing the casing and removably secured thereto or so arranged that one end may be made accessible forl placing thereon a series of note-disk holders with the disks mounted thereon or for removing the same. v
T T2, die., are note-disk holders provided with suitable disk-carriers a, swiveled thereto and adapted to be engaged by the drivingshaft n and rotated thereby. The holders T Serial No. 701,476. (No model.)
T2, die. are formed to be mounted on the shaft A so as to be easily rotated'on this shaft and also to be moved in axial direction. The holders have arms projecting through the casing and provided with handles G G2, &c.,. y
Vhen not and with balance-weights C C2. in action, the holders are in such a position that the note-disks clear the driving-shaft fa, so that they may be shifted in axial direction on the shaft A, as the holder T in Fig. l. The box should be wide enough to admit the whole number of disk-holders to be shifted on the shaft A either to the right or to the left of the end of the shaft fa, so that any one of the holders may be shifted in front of the shaft n and then pushed up to it to bring the driving-shaftn into engagement with the diskcarrier.
The box containing the apparatus may be formed in any desirable manner, means being provided for inserting the disk-holders, with the disks attached thereto, through a suitable door and to make the ends of the handles accessible from the outside.
In the example shown I have provided slots S', S2, and S3 in the end of the casing, through dies.
To properly register the note-disk, any suitable friction-slide on the holders may be used,
1. In a n1usic-boX,tl1e combination of a IOO shaft A secured Within the music-box in the manner described; aseries of note-disk holders with projecting handles, loosely pivoted on said shaft A; a driving-shaft n, which is cleared by the note-holders not in action, but with which any single note-disk is brought into engagement by turning its inner end up and pushing it up to the shaft n, and reeds R, actuated by the note-disks, substantially as described.
2. In a music-box, the combination of a shaft A secured within the music-box in the manner described; a series of note-disk holders with projecting handles having inscriptions designating the particular piece of music, the handles being loosely pivoted on said shaft A; a d riving-shaft n, which is cleared by the note-holders not. in action, but with which any single note-disk is brought into engagement by turning its inner end up and pushing it up to the shaft yn, and reeds R, ac-
tuated by the note-disks, substantially as described.
3. In a music-box, the combination of a shaft A secured Within the box in the manner described; a series of note-disk holders T', T2, duc., withprojecting handles G' G2; said handles being loosely mounted on the shaft A; a driving-shaft a, which is cleared by the holders not in action, but with which any single note-disk is brought into engagement by depressing the handle of the holder and shifting itagainst the shaft n, and slots S', S2 and S3 in the casing, substantially as and for the purpose specied.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
