Description

(No Model.)
J. BAILEY.
MUSIC SHEET FOR MECHANICAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
No. 286,108. Patented Oct. 2, 1883.
WZTNEEEEE: fJVVEA/TUE: Zy JZ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEFFERSON BAILEY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE MGTAMMANY ORGANETTE COMPANY, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
MUSIC-SHEET FOR MECHANICAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,108, dated October 2, 1883,
(N model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFFERSON BAILEY, of the city and county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Perforated Music-Sheets; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, referencebeing hadto the accompanying draw ing, forming part of this specification.
This invention has reference to an improve;
ment in that class of music for mechanical musical instruments, which consists in a perforated valvesheet constructed to pass over the reed-openings of an instrument and admit the air to the reeds desired to be sounded, so as to produce the various notes of a tune or other music.
The invention consists in securing to or printing on one end of the perforated valvesheet the words of the song, so that the same can be readily sung while the sheet passes through the organette, and will always be con nected with the music, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter. 2 The drawing represents a perforated strip, on one end of which the words of the song are printed, written, or otherwise formed.
In the drawing, a is the perforated sheet, and b the words of the song.
It will be observed that the words of the song referring to the tune for which the sheet is perforated are 011 one end of the sheet. These words may be placed on either end'of the sheet, and may be held in the hand while the rest of thesheet passes through the organette, so 3 5 that the same may be readily sung to the tune played by the instrument; or the end with the words may be secured in any convenient manner to facilitate the reading of the words. By this arrangement the words and the tune are 0 always together. They will be sold together, and, when selecting a tune, the words will always be insight, thus enabling any one to sing the song while the organette plays the tune, without depending on the memory of the singer and without loss of time in searching for the words to which the tune is the accompaniment.
It is obvious that the words may be printed or secured to both ends of the sheet, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a valve sheet for mechanical musical instruments, consisting of a continuous perforated sheet, upon the face side of the end of which, beyond the 5 5 perforations, are placed the words of the song. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
