Ourfastener is adapted to be freely inserted into and removed from pockets arranged on each side of the opening of the shoe or glove. hen removed, the foot or hand, as the case may be, can be freely inserted into or removed from the shoe or glove, as the sides about the slit or opening can be freely removed; but when inserted the opening will be closed to prevent the removal of the shoe from the foot or glove from the hand.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shoe with our fastener in place. Fig. 2 is a section on lines 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front and Fig. 4 is a side view of the fastener. Figs. 5 and 6 are similar views to Figs. 3 and at of a modification. Fig. 7 is a view of a modification, partly in section, on line 7 7 of Fig. 8.
As shown in Fig. 3, the fastener comprises two legs a, connected at one end by a spiral spring Z) and free at their other ends from attachment with each other. The edges of the flaps of the shoe or glove are provided with folds or elongated pockets 0. In these pockets or folds a lining D is placed, of flexible material, in tubular form, such as copper or a rubber composition, which will be wear-resisting.
In using the invention the flaps of the shoe are held together by simply inserting the free ends of the legs Ct ct into the pockets and then sliding the fastener into place, as shown in Fig. 1. The spring-head b will allow a certain amount of elasticity or give to the flaps, as in walking, and the legs a a will also yield for this purpose.

We claim- 1. In combination with a shoe having pock ets or folds along the flaps, the fastener comprising the two legs connected yieldingly at one end and free at their other ends, said fas-' tener being adapted to be inserted freely into and removed from the pockets in the shoe, said yielding connection acting to press the legs normally toward each other, substantially as described.
2. In combination, a shoe having the folds or pockets along the flaps, the fastener comprising the two legs and the spring connecting them at one end leaving their other ends free, said fastener being adapted to be inserted into or removed from the pockets in the shoe and the casing inolosing the spring, said spring serving to press together the free ends of the fastener, substantially as described.
3. In combination, the shoe having the folds or pockets, the wear-resisting lining therein of flexible material of tubular form and a fastener having legs connected by a spring at one end and free at their other ends for insertion into the said pockets the tendency of the spring being to draw the legs toward. each other, substantially as described.
