TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it knownv that I, H. M. CLIFFORD, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and'Stat of Penn-1 sylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stove-Pipe Joint; and I do hereby deelarethat the following is a fulh clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to mal'ceand use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

My invention consists in forming the joint, where lengths or pieces of the stove pipe are put together, without lapping them, and in such a manner that, while the joint is equally tight, the facility with which the pipe can he put up and taken down is greatly increased.

In fonningmjy joint, I turn a light flange or lip, 11, on the pipe, as seen .in fig. 2. When the pieces oi -pipe are inplace'these lips or flanges sit together, as represented, forming ajoint. To hold them in this position,

apply a light band, b, around thejoint, with a recess, '0, formed in it, which recess enclosesthe. lips on the ends of the two pieces of pipe, seen in fig. 2. This band is cut across the section in one place, and the ends lap over each other, as seen in fig. 1. One of thccnds has small screws attached to it, and theother has slot holes, as seen, through which the screws pass. When the hand is in place surrounding the joint, as rcpresen ted, small nuts, cl, are applied to the screws. The long slot hole allows theband to be drawn tightly around the joint, and when it is so placed, the nuts arepsorewedtightly down and hold the'ends in place. By removing the nuts the band is readily takenoil', and the stove pipe is taken down with the least possible trouble In putting up long lengths of horizontal pipe this joint is a supporter rendering suspension wires unnecessary for ordinary lengths. This joint is ornamental in appearance, and in every'way an important im'pnovemedt on the old method of putting together store pipe.
