NTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD GEORGE MARTIN, OF GIBSON CITY, ILLINOIS.
VAPOR-BURN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 620,661, dated March 7, 1899.
Application filed January 17, 1898. Serial No. 666,950. (No model.)
To cl/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD GEORGE MAR- TIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gibson City, in the county of Ford and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-Burners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to vapor-burners, and is designed as an improvement on the construction shown in the Letters Patent No. 381,153, granted to me on the 17th day of April, 1888; and the object is to so arrange the burner and combine it with a water-pipe that the water in the pipe will be heated by the burner-flame at the same time that the burner-flame is being employed for other culinary purposes.
To these ends the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the several parts of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a vertical elevation, partly in section, of my improved vapor-burner. Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
1 represents the annular gas-chamber provided with the vapor-inlet 2, which is surmouuted at its top with the annular burnercap 3, formed with the transverse radiallyarranged slits 4f 4.
5 represents the concentric hot-air chamber encompassing the gas-chamber, and itis provided with the hot-air-return outlet 6.
7 denotes the cold-water-inlet pipe leading from the ordinary service-pipe, or it may form the return connection from a suitable hotwater reservoir or range-boiler, (not shown,) and it communicates with the vertical water-pipe 8, which is provided with the screw-threaded cap 9.
10 represents the hot-water pipe leading from the cap 9 to the hot-water reservoir or range-boiler, (not shown,) and 12 represents a similar pipe extending in the opposite di rection from the water-cap 9 and provided at its outer end with a stop-cock or faucet 13, by means of which the hot Water may be drawn direct from the stove-burner. The slits 4 4 in the burner-cap 3 extend downward as far as the horizontal dotted linein Fig. 1, so that the inner circle of the iiame will encompass the water-cap 9.
The operation is as follows: The mixed va'- por or evaporated gasolene and air being admitted to the gas or vapor chamber through the inlet-pipe 2 is ignited at the burner-cap 3.
The flame impinging on the water-cap 9 and water- pipes 10 and 12 heats the water contained therein, which circulates through the reservoir and returns through the pipes 7 and 8 to the water-cap 9. In the meantime the flame above the burner is utilized in the usual manner for cooking, the.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-
In a water-heating vapor-burner, the com= bination with the annular burner-cap 3, of the vertical Water-pipe 8, the funnel-shaped water-cap 9 fixed to the upper end of said pipe in the same horizontal plane with the burnercap, the inner wall of said burner-cap being substantially parallel with the wall of the water-cap, and provided with slits that extend below said water-cap, whereby the flames are directed against said water-cap, and one or more horizontal outlet water-pipes extending through said burner-cap and communicating with said water-cap, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD GEORGE MARTIN.
Witnesses:
G. W. PRESTON, IRA GILMORE.
