Description

ALFRED G. BAYLES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAS-BURNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo. 161,735, dated April 6, 1875; application filed March 15, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED G. BAYLEs, of New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Gas- Burners, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to prevent the flickering of the flame of a gas-burner, and to obi ain a steadier and brighter light with less consumption of gas than can be obtained by the commonly-used gas-burners.
p My invention consists in formingachamber or receptacle between the end of the gas-pipe, to which the burner is attached, andthe burner. In this chamber a hollow cap is placed, which lits the bottom of the chamber. This cap is so constructed that two or more shoulders are formed on the inner side, on which rests one or more wire-gauze disks. By this arrangement the gas must pass through these gauze disks on its passage from the pipe to the burner, which, in a certain measure, stops the pressure, and at the same time gives a steady and uniform How of gas to the burner. As the chamber is of considerably more holding capacity than the inlet to the chamber from the gas-pipe and the burner itself, the gas is allowed to expand before reaching the burner, and is partially heated by the heat from the burner, whereby a considerable saving' of gas is 0btained.
In order to describe my invention more fully I refer to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specitication, of which Figure I is a sectional elevation of my improved gasburner; and Fig. II is a plan section on line w x, Fig. I.
A is the chamber, with inlet-pipe b and cover c, with outlet-pipe and burner d. O is the hollow cap, with shoulders e and f. g g are the wire-gauze disks, resting on the shoulders e and f.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- The hollow cap C, with wire-gauze disks g, in combination with chamber A, with inletpipe b and burner d, substantially as described and set forth.
This specification signed this 11th day of March, 1875.
ALFRED G. BAYLES. Witnesses:
