UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQE.
SAMUEL ASCHER, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
CURTAIN-POLE BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 620,268, dated February 28, 1899.
Application filed August 9 1898.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SOHMUL gen. SAMUEL ASCHER, a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany, residing at Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ourtain-Pole Brackets, (for which I have applied for a patent in Germany, andwhich application is dated. August 20, 1897,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an adjustable bracket or support particularly useful for curtain-poles and hangings of all sorts.
Briefly stated, the invention consists of a fixed part and a removable projecting part or bracket proper which may be placed in and held by any one of a series of suitably-formed recesses in the fixed portion, the several recesses affording a corresponding series of positions or adjustments for the bracket.
The drawings show a preferred form.
Figure 1 is a face view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side view, partly in section, on the plane ac a; of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the plane y y of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 shows the detachable and adjustable portion which forms the support or bracket proper; and Fig. 5 shows a different form of the support or bracket as provided with two eyelets, indicating one of the great variety of forms that can be given to the adjustable part for different purposes.
The wall-plate or fixed member a is provided with the recesses b 1), arranged in two Serial No. 688,168. (No model.)
series, preferably alternately, and evenly spaced, as shown, and of rectangular section. Into any one of these fits the downwardly-extending tongue 01 of the adjustable support or bracket 01 or 01. By inserting the tongue d into that recess 19 or b that corresponds to the best or most suitable position for the bracket or support 01 or d the curtain-pole or other object to be carried by the latter may be easily and quickly put up. To take it down, it is of course only necessary to raise and detach the tongue 01'' from the fixed member a, leaving the latter fixed to the wall or other surface to which it has been attached.
I prefer to form the recesses b b, as shown, by means of two opposed but alternatelyplaced sets of teeth of rack-like outline.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an adjustable bracket or support, the combination of a fixed member provided with two series of rack-like teeth opposed to each other, having contiguous spaces so placed that the teeth of one series are opposite the recesses of the other series, and a movable member provided with a projecting tongue fitting between adjacent pairs of teeth, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
SCHlllUL GEN. SAMUEL ASCHER.
