Be it known that I, J. N. ADAMS, of Bloomfield, inthe county of Davis, and State of Iowa., have made a new and useful Improvement in Machines for Jointing Stove Pipe; and I do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clem',` and exact description of the nature, construction, and operation of the same suicient to enable one skilled in the art to which it'ppertains to construct and use the same, reference being had to the accompanylin g drawing, which is made part of this specification, nnd- Figure 1 of which is a perspective view of my invention.

The improvement consist-s in a'device forA attachmentto a. swaging machineto hold the section of stove pipe .while the end is being swaged into the form of a screw.: to be attachedtonnother section or portion similar-ly furnished at the end by being screwed therein or thereto. i The device consists of an arm to beattached at one end to the swagin'g machine, the 'other end projecting beyond the sWage-rollers toV support the section of Vstove pipe in'such position that the end being presented obliquely' to the rollers will have avthread impressed upon it instead of a. circular groove and rib.

In the drawings, A is the end which is bolted tothe swage.; B are the rolls of the swage; C the projecting arm, and D the support upon, and against which the stove pipe lies, the angle of its presentation to the swage-rollers being regulated by the screw E, or by the equivalent slotted rod and thumb-screw, iig. 2. It will be seen that if the supporting device be so `adjusted as to hold the pipe parallel with the axis of the rollers 'that a. circular groove and rib will beimpressed upon the pipe in a. plane at right angles to the axis of the pipe, butl i if by means of the screw or slotted arm the supporting angle he adjustedto one side, the pipe will rotate between the swage-rolls obliquely lto 'their axes, and the groove and rib be impressed upon them in a screw form. A- certain degree of correspondence is necessary between the ends of the pipes which are to be thus united, and

the means are' alorded by the capacity for adjustment for so regulating the 'pitches to make one screw the counterpart of another, which could not be so readil'yand correctly accomplished by merely holding' the pipe in the hand in a. position obliquely to the axis of the swage-rolls. v

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y 'lhe'combination7 with the projecting arm C, of the l:Adjustable holder D E, substantially as and for the purpose described. y
