ARMAND LEJEUNE, OF VERVIERS, BELGIUM.
DIVIDING APPARATUS FOR CARDIN G-ENGINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 616,946, dated January 3, 1899.
Application filed December 27, 1897. Serial No- 663,616, (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, ARMAND LEJEUNE, a subject of the King of Belgium, residing at Verviers, in the Kingdom of Belgium, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dividing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has been patented in Belgium under date of March 3, 1897, No. 126,691, and May 8, 1897, No. 128,125; in France under date of August 12, 1897, and in England under date of August 23, 1897, No. 19,428.
r the front of crossing that portion of the strap carrying the fleece, and thus prevent their seizing the fleece. The result of giving the strap a half-turn is to cause it to run part of the time with the smooth side out and the other time with the rough side out, and in order to insure the smooth side being always in contact with the fleece it has been customary to cut the belt and join the severed ends again after having given one end a half-turn.
The object of the present invention is to cause the belt to run with the smooth side always in contact with the fleece and yet do away with having any permanent twist in the belt.
My invention is illustrated on the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of the parts of the dividing apparatus or so-called condenser. Fig. 2 is afront view of the same parts as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. Sis a side view of some modifications.
The guiding-rollers C C for the straps L L are provided between their flat usual grooves G with other grooves R, much deeper and smaller, into which the endless straps are brought to penetrate, thus being turned edgewise before passing over the tension-rollers T T and returning to the dividing-rollers. Instead of making the deep grooves R R in the guide-rollers O 0 they can be formed in the dividing-rollers D D, as shown in Fig. 3.
Similar groovesmay also be formed both in the dividing and inthe guiding rollers.
The belt is passed over the dividing-rollers and guide rollers in such a manner that in passing, for instance, from guide-roller C'to the guide roller T it is given a quarter-turn between roller 0 and roller R and is turned back again an equalamount between the roller 0 and roller T, so that it passes around roller T with its same side outward instead of the faces being reversed,as has been the case when a complete half-turn is given to the belt in passing between said pulleys. Owing to the deep groove being of substantially the same width as the thickness of belt or only slightly in excess thereof the belt is always maintained on edge at the front of crossing the fleece, while its smooth side is always maintained outward for contact with the fleece.
It has hitherto been the practice a impart a to-and-fro movement to the roller V, which serves to guide the fleece toward the sleeves in order to prevent its becoming clogged with the fibers detached from the slivers. It has been found, however, that the desired result is not attained. I therefore provide under the said roller and in contact therewith a seocorresponding in width to the thickness of the belt, of an endless belt passing around said rollers and being held edgewise by said narrow and deep grooves, said belt being given a quarter turn or twist on one side of the grooved roller and a reversed turn to an equal degree on the opposite side, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this said rollers having narrow and deep grooves specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARMAND LEJEUNE. Witnesses:
H NRI PIANOE, I. T. LE Oosrn.
