T0 @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. HOMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pilot-Burners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvement in the construction of pilot-burners, and especially in those in use with burners for incandescent gas-lamps; and my object is to provide a protection for the pilot-dame, so that the same Will not be extinguished.
In the preferred construction of my device, Figure l represents, parts being in section, a side elevation thereof. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the top of the mixing-chamber, showing the pilot tube and protector.
A shows in dotted lines the gallery of an incandescent gas-lamp.
B is the burner-tube, conducting air from b and gas from b2 to the mixing-chamber C.
D is a gauze cap or partition for the mixing-chamber.
E is a pilot-tube extending in this embodiment up to the gauze above which burns the pilot-dame when the main passage for the gas is shut o as is common in this art.
F is a protector for the pilot-flame, which in this embodiment consists of a dish-shaped flange having a hole in the center, through which the end of the tube projects.
It is found in devices of this class that when the pilot-flame is lighted a very slight draft will be sufficient to extinguish the same. Therefore some protection is necessary which will not interfere with the passage of the gas when the main burner is lighted.
It will be obvious that many variations of the construction herein shown may be made Without departing from the spirit of my in-
