Description

No. 615,244. Patented Dec. 6, I898. H. A. BBOGNARD.
LAMP
(Application filed Feb. 21, 1898.)
(No Model.)
l-NVENTOR WITNESSES 6 ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY A. BROGNARD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO FELIX JELLENIK, TRUSTEE, OF SAME PLACE.
LAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 615,244, dated December 6, 1898.
Application filed February 21, 1898. Serial No. 671,022. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. BROG-NARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in lamps in which the lens or glass front. of the reflector is held in place by a clip; and the objects of my improvement are, first, to provide a simple clip, easily removable and adjustable, and, second, to provide a clip adapted to retain a lens or glass of any desired thickness in proper position. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is afront elevation of a lamp having a reflector and lens with my improvement applied. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the lens portion of the lamp with my improvement applied; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a reflector, a part being broken away, showing my improvement.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A indicates the body of the lamp; B, the reflector; G, the lens or glass, and D the clip.
The clip D is preferably made of wire bent into a substantially semicircular form following the lines of the circumference of the reflector and having at each end a shoulder E, from which projects a horn F. In the rim of the reflector in front of the lens are two perforations G G opposite each other and about midway between the top and bottom of the reflector. On the inner edge of the rim of the reflector is a lug H, which may be swaged,
as shown at I in Fig. 1, or may be welded or may be attached in any desired manner. The clip D is put in place by springing the horns F through the perforations G", so that the shoulders E engage the perforations,as shown, assisting in keeping the clip from falling out when off the lug. The middle portion of the clip is then pushed over the lug H, thus tightening the clip between the lug and the shoulder, preventing the same from becoming loosened, and pushing the horns firmly against the lens or glass. In releasing the lens or glass the clip is pushed off the lug, thus throwing the horns forward and permitting the lens or glass to be removed. It is obvious that the putting in place and removal of the lens is thus simplified, while the resiliency of the wire in the clip and horns adapts the same for use with a lens of any practicable desired thickness.
WVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A lens-clip for lamps consisting of wire bent into a substantially semicircular shape having a shoulder at each end with a horn on each shoulder, said horns passing from the rear to the front of the reflector through perforations on opposite sides of the rim, and .means for pressing the horns against the lens to hold the latter in position, substantially as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed the same, this 12th day of February, 1898, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' HENRY A. BROGNARD.
