The sides of the kiln are built oftwo thicknesses of walls,ve., an inner ivall A andan o uterlwall, Al, enclosing a hotair chamber, A2, between them. The inner wall A should be built with. straight-sides, but the wall Al-shouldhave concave sides, the same as those in our former invention... The top oi this kln is covered with double brick arches E E', the, latter being perforatedwith smoke-holes e, the same asin our formerkiln. The ventilation-doors'e are also similar in construction vand arrangement to those formerlyeinployed. The chimneys F in this kiln are much diii'erent from those hithertojemployed. `They should-be arranged, as shown in 1, withonof them at each end' of -each of the chambers D and connected with the Achamber A2 (which-is n open communication with the chambersD) by the orifice a2 in the wall lAl at .valve F inthe chimney may'be opened ivhen desired, 'so as to allow'the 'smoke to'pass intothe flue in the direction of the arrow f Lbut trhen'i't is desirable to closevth'e said valve the smoke andheated air ivill pass up into-the chamber A? inthe direction of the arrowlff.' vIn this chamber a. large-part of. the heat that would otherwise-be wasted will be absorb-ed and economizedl in the kiln. A great improvement over the old kilns consists in starting the-fires in the centreof vthe kiln ,'and\for this reason we-ccnstru'ct the 'gratefbars C entirely across the kiln,'as sho-wn infig.l 1. A'great'economy of time andfuel'in starting the kiln is thus 'effected'.
