COMBINED BOWLING GAME.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE BROWN, a citizen of Germany, residing at New York, in the borough of Brooklyn, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Toy Bowling Apparatus and Target, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved toy bowling apparatus and target combined, which is so constructed that it can be used in connection with a table or board of suitable length and readily stored away after use; and the invention consists of a bowling apparatus and target combined, which comprises a box having a hinged lid, means forattaching it to one end of the table or board, said box being provided with a depressed rear portion for the balls, and the hinged lid with a target and a toy cannon attached to the opposite end of the board and consisting of a swiveled barrel, and means for horizontally and vertically adjusting the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved bowling apparatus and target combined, showing the same attached to a table in use as a bowling apparatus. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a similar longitudinal section of the same parts, showing the same rigged up with rising and falling targets; and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the closed boxcoutaining the detachable parts.

My improved bowling apparatus and target combined consists oftwo main parts-n am ely, a box and a toy cannon or projector, said box being composed of a body portion A, open at one end, and a lid A, hinged to the rear wall of the same and provided with a downwardlyextending front wall for closing the open end of the box. To the inside of the hinged lid A is attached a target If, so that when the lid is placed in upright position and secured there by hooks A and eyes A it can be shot at. Below the target If is arranged in the rear end of the box a depression or well a for the balls, pins, &o. The bottom of the box is provided with suitable marks on which the pins are placed when the apparatus is to be used for bowling.

Suitable screw-clamps O are attached to the'fron't edge of the box portion A, so that the box can be attached to one end of a table or board B, the clamps being so arranged that the bottom of the box portion is on a level with the table, as shown in Fig. 1. The bottom of the box portion A is provided with a hook or'other suitable locking device I), which engages a headed pin 6 on the lid A, so as to retain the lid in closed position when the loose or detachable parts of the apparatus are to be stored away. To the opposite end of the table B is applied the toy cannon, which consists of a barrel D, which is provided with a sleeve d, and is supported on a longitudinally-slotted standard D bya screwbolt 6 and thumb-nut c, said screw-bolt passin g through the sleeve at the upper bent end of the said slotted standard. The slotted standard is connected, by means of a screw-bolt f be adjusted laterally along the edge of the table and vertically by means of the screwbolt f and horizontally by'means of the swivel connection eof the barrel with the upper end of the vertical standard D. The barrel D is provided with a projector g and expandingspring gand means for setting and releasing the spring-actuated projector, consisting of a suitable spring-trigger 9 which can take into a notch 9 in the stem of the projector, so that when the trigger is operated the ball that is placed in the barrel is thrown forward against the pins p or target 25, located on the box portion and lid of the same. taking aim along the barrel and then adjusting the same preparatory to shooting a proper aim can be taken at the pins or target, according to the skill of the parties playing the game. If desired, the well-known and evident means for setting up the pins by means of strings and a tube for returning the balls to the player may be used in connection with the box portion, which is of some advantage when one person is playing alone, as it is unnecessary for him to go to the pin or target end of the box for setting up the pins and getting the balls. When several players ICO are playing together, it is not necessary, as one person can set up the pins and return the balls to the player.

In connection with the box portion may be used a target attachment, which consists of movable targets H 11, preferably in imitation of boats, which are suspended by means of cords h, passing over pulleys h, applied to the free end or angular wall of the lid, as shown in Fig. 3. The target II is provided with a movable bulls-eye 71. which when hit explodes a cap, and its hook 71, is released from the suspension-rod B, so that the said target sinks, while the other opposite target H, of less weight, is raised so as to be back of the target 11 that has been struck. To set the target attachment, the target II has to be returned and secured again in its raised position on the anvil I back'of the same. To hide the counterbalancing-target H, it is preferable to use a detachable wall P, which is inserted in guides on the side walls of the box, as shown in Fig. 3.

After a bowling or shooting game has been played the can non is detached from the table and placed with the balls, pins, &c., into the box portion A, after which the lid is placed in closed position and fastened, so that all the parts are safely stored away and ready for use when the game is to be played again.

The parts of the apparatus can be used in connection with a table of suitable length or in connection with a suitable board. The loose parts being all compactly stored away in the box, it can be readily carried or shipped, forming a very entertaining game apparatus for children or adults.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- 1. A combined bowling apparatus and target, consisting of a box open at one end and provided with a depressed portion or well, a

lid hinged to the box and having an angular portion for closing the front of the box, means for fastening said box to one end of a suitable support, and a shooting device or cannon provided with means for attaching it to the other end of said support, substantially as set forth.

2. A combined bowling apparatus and tar get, consisting of a box, a lid hinged to the box and provided with a target, means for securing said box to one end of a suitable support and an adj ustable shooting device or cannonprovided with means for attaching it to the other end of said support, substantially as set forth.

3. In a combined bowling apparatus and target, the combination of a box provided at one end with clamping devices, a depression or well at the rear end, a lid hinged to the rear wall of the box and provided with an angular wall for closing the front end of the box, movable targets supported on said lid, and a shooting device or cannon provided with means for clamping it to a suitable support, substantially as set forth.

4. In a combined bowling apparatus and target, the combination of a box open at one end and provided with means for clamping it to a table or other suitable support, a depression or well at the rear end of the box, a hinged lid, movable targets supported on said lid, a detachable partition adapted to be supported in front of the well, and a shooting device or cannon provided with means for clamping it to a suitable support, substantially as set forth.
