HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 611,624, dated October 4, 1898.
Application filed June 10, 1898. Serial No. 683,051. (No model.)
To ail whom it may concern.-
- Be it known that I, EDWARD G. GERMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating-Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in heating-stoves, and particularly to the con struction of that class known as double heaters; and it consists, substantially, in constructing a pair of vertical passages occupying the rear corners of a square stove-body, which passages curve over the smoke-flue and join together into a common passage terminating above the smoke-flue in a pipe-thimble at the rear of the stove-top, as hereinafter set forth anddescribed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the rear of a stove embodying my invention, with a portion of the same broken away. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the rear portion of the same on the line 00 w in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a like transverse section on the line y y in Fig. 1.
In this stove the base A and the fire-pot B are of ordinary construction. On the top of the fire-pot B there is a ring D, having its inner surface round, so as to coincide with the inside of the top of the fire-pot B, upon which it rests. The outside of this ring D, however, is substantially square or rectangular, so as to conform to a square-shaped stove body E, resting thereon. The side plates 6 e and the front plate (not shown) are flat plates which constitute three sides of the square or rectangular stove-body E and rest in grooves in the top of the ring D. The rear plate F is circular and conforms nearly-to the top ofthe fire-pot and rests in a circular groove in the top of the ring D and joins the side plates 8 e by entering vertical grooves e e on the inner surfaces thereof. A smokefiue G projects from the back plate F a short distance below the lower part of the stove- .top H, and the central part of the back of the stove-top is cut back, so as to form a recess h therein, which forms the front side of the upper portion of the hot-air flue hereinafter described, the back of this portion of this flue being formed by a plate I, the outside of which forms the rear edge of the stove-top H and supports a pipe-thimble 2'. This plate extends down to about the middle of the smokeflue G, where it joins plates J J, which form the backs of triangular hot-air flues K K in the rear corners of the stove-body E, which are formed between the curved sides ff of the rear plate F, the rear portions of the sides e e, and the plates J J, continued at their upperends by the plate I until the flues K K join above the smoke-flue into a common flue K, which is formed by the recess h in the stove-top and the. upper portion of the plate I, and finally terminating in'the pipe-thimble t" on the top of said plate I. At the lower ends of the rear corner-fines K K there are openings d dthrough the ring D, through which air is admitted thereto, and which air passes up through said fiues and out of the pipe-thimble a, as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention so as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
l. The combination in a heating-stove of a round fire-pot, a square stove-body mounted thereon having an inside back plate curved to conform to the rear of the top of the fire pot, andhaving the upper part thereof recessed to conform with a recess in the back of the stove-top, and plates forming portions of the back of the stove-body inclosing the spacebetween the curved and recessed inside back plate and the rear portions of the sides and top, so as to form hot-air dues in the rear corners of the body and join together into a common, flue opening out of the central portion of the rear of the stove-top, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
.2. The combination in a heatiiigstove, of a round fire-pot, a ring on the top of said firepot conforming on its inside to the top of the fire-pot, and having its periphery rectangular and with openings through the rear corners thereof, with a square stove-body mounted thereon having an inside back plate curved to conform to the rear of the top of the firepot, and having the upper part thereof recessed to conform with the recess in the stovetop, and plates inclosing the space between the curved and recessed inside back plate and the rear portions of the sides and top, formin g portions of the back of the stove-body and the backs of hot-air flues in the rear corners of the body which join together so as to form a common flue opening out of the central portion of the rear of the stove-top, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination in a heating-stove, of a round fire-pot B, a ring D mounted on the top thereof, having its periphery rectangular and I having openings d d in the rear corners thereof, a square or rectangular stove-body E mounted thereon, the rear portion of which which fiues join in a flue K above the smokeflue, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD G. GERMER.
