CHARLES M. I-IYATT, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
GAME-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 0. 611,453, dated September 27, 1898.
Application filed April 18, 1898.
To all whom it may con'cerzt:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES M. HYATT, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city and county of Albany, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to game-boards; and the object of my invention is to provide a game-board which shall be composed of two parts with means for holding them together side by side and when separted the two parts adapted to be telescopically arranged in reference to each other, formin g a box. I attain this object by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan. Fig. 2 is a cross-section. Fig. 3 is a section of the two members fastened together side by side. Fig. 4 is a fastener. Fig. 5 is a modified form of fastener. Fig. 6 is a modified form of fastener.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Game-boards have heretofore been made arranged in such a manner that by means of straps or hinges one part may become a cover for the other part when the article as a gameboard is not in use. There is always more or less objection to a board of this kind because of its liability to wear out, tear, break, 850., and I have provided a game-board in which I do away with the hinged fastening devices and provide adj ustable fasteners which will hold the two members of the board positively together. I thus provide also for a receptacle for the checkers, dice, or other articles used in the game.
My game-board consists of two independent members A and B, telescopically arranged in reference to each other when not in use as a game-board. I may arrange one face of each member, as shown in Fig. 1, in squares differing in color and in the form of a checker- Serial No- 6'7'7,911. (Ito model.)
in Fig. 3 the members will be held securely together side by side, forming a continuous I do not limit myself to the kind of clasp, and I show three similar clasps, either of which could be used advantageously. 'lihe clasp shown in Fig. at (designated 0) is a small wire spring-clasp. The clasp D, Fig. 5, may be constructed of a piece of tin bent upon itself, or that shown in Fig. 6, E, is an ordinary coil of wire, allowing for the insertion of the adjacent edges of the two members of the board between adjacent spirals of the coil. In each of these the resiliency of the clasp tends to hold the edges of the adjacent members firmly together. 7
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A game-board consisting of two members, adapted when not in use as a game-board, to be arranged telescopically in reference to each other, forming a closed receptacle, in combination with detachable spring-claspaadapted to secure together side by side the two members of the said game-board, the resiliency of said clasp tending-to hold the edges of the adjacent members, securely and positively together, substantially as described.
Signed by me, at Albany, New York, this 15th day of April, 1898.
CHARLES M. HYAIT.
