Description

E. KOHLER. GAME. APPLICATION HLED MAR- 27. I916- -1,206,718. Patented Nov. 28, 1916.
INVENTOR. EIWPJZ [T077167 BY A TTORNE YS.
enrrnn sra i pts raannr ERNEST KOHLER, OF ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA.
GAME.
Application filed March 27, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ennns'r Konnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alameda, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in games and more particularly to a game, which is in the nature of a puzzle for the test of skill.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a novel device of this character having fields in which balls are adapted to roll and a hole into which they are adapted to drop. The path leading to this hole being a narrow raised strip, it requiring considerable skill to maintain the balls on this strip while they are approaching the hole.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts described in the following specification and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a view in plan-showing the construction of the improved game device. Fig. 2 is a view in section on 2 2. Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in section on 3-8, Fig. 1.
Denoting corresponding parts in the several views by the same numerals of reference, 1 denotes the body of the device, which is substantially rectangular in shape and provided with a raised flange 2 around the outer edge thereof. The ends are provided with handles 3 and 4, the latter having an opening by which the board may be suspended when not in use.
' Inclosed within the flange 2 are two sepa rate fields 5 and 5', the latter being raised above the former and on the sides connected therewith by the inclined portion 7. EX- tending from the raised field 5 centrally into the depressed field 5 is a tongue or pathway 6 on the same level with the field 5. This raised path has on the outer end a hole 8 and underneath cavity 9. This cavity is of sufficient size to allow all the balls used in the game to be inclosed therein and is provided with a removable back plate 11, having formed on the inner surface ratchet like notches 10, the object of which will be hereinafter described. Adjacent the opposite end of the board are formed inclined Specification of Letters Patent.

wings 12 extending from the sides to adjacent the center line of the field 5. These wings being provided with the turned edge 13, thus inclosing pockets in which the balls 1% may be held while endeavoring to place a single ball through the opening 8.
The game is played by grasping the device by the handles 3 and 4-, and rolling the balls into the pockets between the wings 12 and the flange 2. One at a time is then removed from these recesses and an endeavor made to run this ball out along the tongue 6 so as to drop it into the opening 8. Of course, the ball will many times drop into the depressed field 5 from which it may be easily rolled onto the raised field by means of the incline 7. As the ball is dropped through the opening 8 the board is tilted until it rolls to the other end of the recesses 9 and is seated in one of the notches 10. Thus when the board is again inclined so as to roll another of the balls toward the same opening and block the second ball from falling through the opening.
The object of the game is to see who can place the largest number of balls through the opening in a given time, or if several boards are available to see which can first place all the balls through the opening.
It will thus be apparent that I have provided a simple, convenient and attractive form of game device, and while I have shown the preferred construction thereof, it will be understood that minor changes may be made in detail and design within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit thereof.
1 claim 1. A game device comprising a rectangular body portion, a raised flange around the periphery thereof, a raised field, a depressed field, an inclined surface connecting said fields, a tongue forming a continuation of said raised field extending into said depressed field, said body portion having an elongated recess under said tongue and an opening from the surface of said tongue into said recess.
2. A game device comprising a rectangular body portion, a raised flange around the periphery thereof, a raised field, a depressed field, an inclined surface connecting said fields, a tongue forming a continuation of said raised field extending into said depressed field, said body portion having an elongated recess under said tongue and an opening from the surface of said tongue into said recess, and Wings on said raised field extending from said flange to form pockets therebetWeen and the corners of said raised flange.
3. A game device comprising a rectangular body portion, a raised flange around the periphery thereof, a raised field, a depressed field, an inclined surface connecting said fields, a tongue forming a continuation of said raised field extending into said depressed field, said body having an elongated recess under said tongue, the bottom of said recess having retaining notches formed therein, said tongue having an opening on the end thereof extending into said recess, and Wings on said raised field forming pockets therebetween and the corners of said raised flange.
4. A game device comprising a raised field, a depressed field, a tongue forming a continuation of said raised field extending into said depressed field, said tongue having an opening thereunder and an opening from the surface thereof into said recess.
A game device comprising an elongated body having a fiat field of substantial area, a second flat field of smaller area and in a different plane, said fields being joined by inclined surfaces, and a narrow tongue projecting from an edge of the larger field and Over the smaller field, between said inclined surfaces, the top surface of said tongue being in the same plane as the corresponding surface of the larger field, said tongue having a closed chamber in its outer extremity leading in from the top thereof.
In testimony whereof I a flix my signature.
