SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 611 ,443, dated September 27, 189
Application filed January 22, 1898. Serial No. 667,542. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BABETTE ABT, residing at Frankfort-on-the-lvlain, Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improved File for Loose Sheets, Papers, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to files, and has for its object to produce a form of construction in which loose sheets may be arranged in such a manner as to allow of their easy inspection.
My invention will be understood by referring to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a file embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 8 is a side elevation looking in a direction at right angles to the direction of view in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the base of the file.
In the drawings, a is a loop of wire or rod bent into the form shown and serving as the base of the file. The free ends a of the loop a are shown as turned up and preferably have their extreme ends a bent out horizontally. The upturned ends or uprights a of the loop a may be provided on one or both sides with notches a A plate 1) slides upon the uprights a, the said uprights passing through apertures in the said plate. The edges or flanges b of the plate I) are turned down and receive the free ends 0 of the lever c. This lever c is shown as consisting of a wire loop or frame having its free ends 0 journaled in the flanges b of the plate I). Another lever or frame (1 is likewise journaled in the flanges b of the plate I) at the opposite side of the said plate from the side in which the lever c is pivoted or journaled. Thus it will be observed that the levers c and d are pivoted to the plate 19 upon opposite sides of the uprights a, so that when both of the levers or loops 0 d are swung down the plate I) will be tilted and will engage in one of the notches a of the uprights. The file may likewise be provided with stiff separating-pieces or separatrices r in order to remove single sheets. One of the loops or levers c d is turned up, thus releasing the second loop and also simultaneously loosening the plate on the apparatus of the main loop or frame a. The two loops and their plate I) are then pushed upward either entirely or onto the horizontal bent parts of the uprights of the main loop or frame and in the latter case may form a support for sheets placed thereon.
It will beunderstood that the file so far as described is complete in itself; but in case it is desired to attach the same to a casing in order to assemble a number of files into a filecabinet such object may be attained as follows The frame or loop a may be secured to a plate 00, whose edges as are turned over the branches of the main loop a. The plate a; may likewise be provided with fasteners 00*, by which. it may be fastened to a casing 11 Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1S-.
1. In a file for loose sheets and the like, the combination of the standards a, the plate b engaging the standards and the loops 0 d pivoted to the plate.
2. In a file for loose sheets and the like, the combination of the standards a, the plate b and the loop 0 having its free ends pivoted in the plate.
3. In a'file for loose sheets and the like, the combination of the standards a, the plate I) and the levers o d pivoted to the said plate on opposite sides of the said standards.
4.. In a file for loose sheets and the like, the combination of the standards a, the plate I) engaging the standards and the loops 0 d pivoted to the plate, combined with a casing and means for securing the uprights a to the casing.
5. In a file for loose sheets and the like, the combination of the main loop a provided with uprights, the plate 17, the lovers 0 d pivoted to the plate on opposite sides of the uprights, substantially as described and for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
' BABETTE ABT.
