WILLI M A. MCADAMS, on NEW YORK, N. 'Y.
ALUMINIUM ALLOY SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 61 1,016, dated September 20, 1898. Application filed December 7, 1897. I Serial No. 661,017. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,WILLIAM A. Mon DAMS, of New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a newand useful Improvement in Aluminium Alloys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in compositions for use in casting articles of various kinds, the composition being an alloy of aluminium consisting of the following ingredients and combined in substantially the proportions statedviz aluminium, one'hundred and eight ounces; copper-,twelve ounces; zinc, thirty-six ounces; nickel, one ounce.
The several ingredients of the composition are taken in substantially the proportions hcreinabove stated and are combined in the following manner; The nickel is melted, and to the molten nickel is added the copper.
the molten aluminium, and then the zinc is added. The composition .may' then be poured into the outside exposure.
molds and permitted to cool and harden for forming articles of various kinds.
The composition has the following charac teristics: It is a silvery white in color and has a luster which remains nndimmed by long It has very great breaking strength, with a considerable amount of spring and resilience' Furthermore, while in its molten state it flows very easily under pressure into the mold, whereby the article which it forms is provided with very sharp and smooth corners and. edges.
. What I claim is-- A composition of matter consisting of aluminium, copper, zinc and nickel in substantially the following proportions, viz., aluminitwelve ounces, zinc thirty-six ounces and nickel one ounce.
