Description

No. 608,336. Patented Aug. 2, I898. W. LACKEY.
KITCHEN CABINET.
(Application-filed Aug. 19, 1897.)
U NITED: STATES PATENT O IC WILLIAM LAOKEY, OF SHERWOOD, TEXAS.
KITCHEN-CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 608,336, dated August 2, 1898.
Application filed August 19, 1397. Serial No. 648,827. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LAOKEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sherwood, in the county of Irion and State of Texas, have invented certain new and'useful Improvementsin Kitchen-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification' My invention relates to cabinets of that class which provide storage-room for kitchensupplies and embody in connection with the receptacles means for controlling the delivery of the materials and for grinding coffee, sifting flour or meal, &c.
The object of my invention is to improve the details of furniture of this character,
whereby the parts thereof better serve their respective functions and are rendered more convenient in use and the article is cheapened in its construction and made more durable and serviceable. l
The several details of my said invention will be fully understood upon reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a front elevation of my improved kitchen-cabinet, a sieve and valve being removed and placed on the front or table. Fig. II is an end elevation of the same, looking from the left. Fig. III is a vertical longitudinalsection on the line III III, Fig. II. Fig. IV is a vertical transverse section on the line I'V IV, Fig. III;
The cabinet comprises a body portion 1, of rectangular form, having converging sides 1 and front 1", leading to a lower rectangular portion 1and providing two bins 2 and a central space 2 intermediate of the bins, the bins having removable covers 3 and sifting-hoppers 4 beneath the bins 011 each side of the central space 5 drawers 5, 6, 7, and 8, for condiments, &c., mounted in the central space be tween the bins; drawer 9, for salt or other substance, in the central space within the lower rectangular portion between the hoppers well 10 on top of said central space, and sides 11 and back 12, projecting down from the rectangular portion of the body, forminga receptacle or Well at the lower portion of the body in connection with bottom 13 and the combined front and table 14, hinged to said bottom. The cabinet is further provided with adj ustable standards 15, supports 16, acoffee-receptacle 1'7, and grinder 18.
7 'Each hopper l has at its mouth, within the lower rectangular portion, a transversely-sliding U shaped sieve 19,with a correspondinglycurved front plate 20 for covering its U- shaped opening 19 and permits withdrawal of the sieve for cleaning and repair, while above the sieve is a rotaryagitator 21, e011- trolled by a crank 22, which turns in front of plate 20 to hold the sieve in place when the crank is located in a position beneath its axis, and above said agitator is a horizontally-sliding valve 23, which cuts off the flow of material (flour or meal) from the bin, so that the sifter may be removed at will and so that the material will not be constantly dropping through when the cabinet is jarred. The said sides 11, back 12, and front 14 when shut extend from the lower edges of the rectangular portion of the cabinet and form a receptacle or well which may be locked, if desired, and in which considerable room is left by reason of the converging sides and'front of the hoppers. The front is secured by hinges 24., limited'in its downward movement by jointed straps 25, and swings up against the lower front edge when shut, so as to make a neat and trim appearance.
Each standard 15 is formed of channel-bar, and to connect the body portion to said stand ard it is provided with lower angle-brackets 26, upon which the body rests, and with upper brackets 27, secured to the sides of the cabi net in any suitable manner. The standards rest in laterally-presented sockets28, formed justably secured in the channels of the standards by means of the clips and nuts 36. Each support has a downwardly-projecting Ilaring sleeve 37, fitted to the shank and resting on the support and forming a barrier for vermin.
Upon one of the brackets 27for instance, the upper oneI provide a projection 38, having a vertical opening 39, and in connection with this I provide a coffee-receptacle &O of peculiar shape, having a bail t1 projecting upwardly from one side of the receptacle, then horizontally, and terminating in a downward projection l2, which enters the opening 39 in projection 38. The coffee-receptacle 17 is thus removably supported on the cabinet. The coffee-receptacle consists of a tight chamber having a funnel 4:3 at one corner of the bottom with a mouth 44:, which consti tutcs the only opening into the receptacle and is closed by a valve The funnel 43 projeets into the hopper if) of the coffee-grinder 18, so that it is simply necessary to withdraw valve l5 when it is desired to grind coffee.
The coffee-grinder 18 is of ordinary construction, and in order that any grinder may be mounted on the cabinet I provide one of the brackets 27 with a lateral flange $7, to which I secure a board 48, to which the grinder may be attached in the usual manner, or the board -18 may be the back of the grinder.
Having now described my said invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A kitchen-cabinet comprising a rectangular body having converging sides and front and lower rectangular portion, and providing two bins having independent hoppers and a central space extending into the lower rectangular portion. between the bins and hop pers, the upper well above the central space, the back, sides, bottom and table providing a lower well beneath the converging sides, front and lower rectangular portion of the hopper, the upper drawers beneath the upper well, the lower drawer within the lower rectangular portion between the hoppers, the brackets secured to the sides of the cabinet having laterally-presented sockets, and the channel-bar standards on which the cabinet is adj ustably supported; substantially as described.
J. A kitchen-cabinet comprising a rectangular bodyhaving convergingsides and front and lower rectangular portion, formed with U-shaped openings and providing two bins having independent hoppers and a central space extending into the lower rectangular portion between the hoppers, the U-shaped removable sieves each having a correspondingly U-shaped front plate, closing the sieveopenings, and the rotary stirrers having cranks for holding the sieves in place when in normal position; substantially as described.
