METAL LOOP FOB TAGS. I
SAMUEL B. FAY, OF FRANKLIN, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 60,624, dated December 18, 1866.
an Il1thlllt nfcmt In in than 32mm wind ant matinu tart at the time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. FAY, of Franklin, in the county of Venango, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful improvement in Metal Loops for Tags; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of metal loops or locks for attaching tags or labels to articles of merchandise, formed so as to pass through or over available parts of the articles to be marked, and is constructed of wire formed in such a .manner that, by crossing the arms of the loop or look, and then attaching it by interlocking through the eye of the tag, holds hem in the required position without any liability of becoming detached.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to des'cribeits construction.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my loop for tag, showing the form of the lock.
Figures 2, 3, 4, and 5 are end elevations of the same, showing them attached to different forms and sizes of tags or labels.-
Letters of like name and kind refer to like 'parts in each of thefigures.
A represents the form of one of my loops or locks for tags, made of wire of any suitable kind and size in the form as seen in fig. 1, and made by turning a circle in each end of a piece of wire of suitable length, leaving a proper space between the end of the wire and main body, so that the tag and goods will pass .between. This wire is then bent round so that the said circles will meet and correspond with each other, as seen at B, fig. 1. C- represents the tag locked to the loop or look. This tag may be made-of any suitable material. To attach the locks to articles, the arms of the loop are sprung together, which separates or opens the lock, and the ends passed through the article designed to be labeled. My invention is cheap and novel'in its construction, and perfectly reliable for the purpose it is designed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Tho hook for tags, consisting of the loop wire A, with both ends turned or bent into circles, adapted to .lie side by side, and applied to the tag in the manner described for the purpose specified.
' SAMUEL B. FAY.
