G'.BENSENE. WAGON SEAT SUPPORT.
w Patented June 21,1898.
ggl wawe I UNITED STATES PATENT OEFIQE.
CHARLES 'BENSENE, OF TESS CORNERS, \VISCONSIN.
WAGON-SEAT SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 605,846, dated June 21, 1898.
Application fil d December 27, 1897. Serial No. 663,447. (No model.)
My invention has for 1ts objectto provide for ready vertical adjustment of wagon-seats;
and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents apartlysectional side elevation of an assemblage of parts embodied in my invention, and Fig. 2 a detail rear elevation of certain of said parts. Referring by letter to the drawings, Arepresents a plate provided with upper and lower cylindrical guide protuberances B for a stand ard C, the latter being a section of ordinary gas-pipe. The plate is provided with lateral ear extensions 6, having apertures therein for the passage of screws or bolts employed to fasten said plate to a wagon-body side-board.
In pivotal connection with a pair of ears 0, extending from the upper guide protuberance of the plate A, is a lever D, opposed by a spring (1, arranged as shown. A latch-lug 6 extends inward from the upper end of the lever through an aperture in the adjacent guide protuberance of plate A to engage with any one of a series of apertures f at intervals longitudinally of standard 0, and in screw-thread connection with the upper end of the stand ard is a socket f, depending from a head E, that constitutes a rest for a spring F, bolted or otherwise rigidly secured thereto, this spring being for connection with one end of a wagon-seat. However, the latter spring may be omitted and said head made fast to said wagon-seat. g
' While one guide protuberance on each .plate A may be found suflicient, it is prefer able to employ two, asfherein shown, the
found most convenient or desirable.
length of each being proportioned with respect to economy in the matter of metal.
The plate A, with its cylindrical guide protuberances, the lever D, and standard-head E are metal castings. Hence with the inclusion of the gas-pipe standard 0 the device as a whole is very simple and economical in the matter of cost.
It is necessary that there be two assemblages of the parts herein set forth for each wagon-seat, and the elevation of the latter is dependent upon the vertical adjustment of the gas-pipe standards, the apertures in each being at greater or less intervals apart, as It also follows that the wagon-seat may be readily displaced with its springs and standards.
Having .thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
V 1. The combination of a plate having'at least one cylindrical guide protuberance and lateral apertured ear. extensions, a gas-pipe standard apertured at intervals of its length and engageable with the plate protuberance, a spring-latch in pivotal connection with said plate protuberance for engagement with any one of the standard-apertures, and a head in screw-thread connection with said standard.
2. The combination of a plate having upper and lower cylindrical guide protuberances and lateral apertured ear extensions, a gaspipe standard apertured at intervals of its length and engageable with both plate protuberances, a spring-latch in pivotal connection withsaid upper plate protuberance for engagement'with any one of the standard-apertures, and a head in screw-thread connection with said standard.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Tess Corners, in the county of VVaukesha and State of Wis consin, in the presence of two witnesses. 7
CHARLES BEN SENE.
