Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMOS B. EISAMAN, OF GREENSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
WAGON-BOLSTER STAKE.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 690,845, dated January 7, 1902.
' Application filed October 19, 1901. Serial No. 79,261. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMos B. EISAMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greensburg, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ,Wagon-Bolster Stakes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in wagon attachments, and especially to an adjustable box for bolsters, whereby the device may be readily adjusted to fit wagon-boxes of different widths; and it consists in the provision of a cast or malleable plate, from which a wagon-holdin g upright rises, which plate has elongated aperturesin its parallel side portions, the upper edges of each aperture having a series of notches or grooves to engage over a retaining-bolt to hold the plate in an adjusted position.
The invention will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims, and is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawin s %igure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bolster-plate, shown as held to a bolster. Fig. I
2 is a perspective view of the bolster plate.
Referencevnow being had to the details of the'drawings by letter, A designates a bolster of a wagon. The bolster plate orcasting comprises the two parallel portions D D, each having elongated apertures. The upper 1ongitudinal edge of each aperture E has aseries of grooves or notches E, which may be brought successively into registration with one or the other of the apertures in the bolster, in whichapertures bolts H are mounted as said plate is moved longitudinally on the bolster and when the upper edges of said parallel portions D D are flush with the upper edge of the bolster. Said bolts H are designed to be passed through apertures in the bolster, and any pair of grooves or notches in the edges of the opposite apertures E are designed to rest upon the bolt, thus supporting the inner ends of the bolster-plate, and when the nut is placed uponthe bolt and screwed against the face of the plate the latter may be clamped between said nut and the head of the bolt and held in an adjusted position. At the outer ends of said parallel portions D D rises the bolster stake or projection K, the bottom of which rests upon the bolster, and apertuers L are provided at different locations in said stake or projection, in which rings may be held.
From the foregoing itwill be observed that with a bolster-plate made in accordance with my invention the stake may be readily adj usted to fit and hold wagon-boxes of various widths or held to the bolster at different 10- cations thereon to adapt the wagon for various uses.
c Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A bolster=plate, comprising two parallel portions spaced apart and having oppositelydisposed elongated apertures therein, the upper edges of each aperture having a series of grooves designed to receive a bolt passed through a bolster, said parallel portions designed to be clamped to the bolster by means of the head of the bolt and the nut thereon, a bolster stake or projection rising from one end of the parallel portions, as set forth.
2. In combination withabolster of a wagon, the bolster-plate comprising the two parallel portions spaced apart, a bolster stake or box engaging projection connecting the outer ends of said parallel portions, the parallel sectionshaving elongated apertures the upper edges of which are grooved transversely,
the bolster and bolt carried thereby which is adapted to pass through said apertures and engage said grooves, the upper edges of the plate being flush with the upper edge of said bolster, as set forth. a
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence'of two witnesses.
AMOS B. EISAMAN. Witnesses:
WILLIAM MARKS, JOHN J. ALTMAN.
