B. QUINCEY.
HAME STEAL Patented May 10,1898.
PATENT Prion.
RICHARD QUINCEY, OF EL PASO, TEXAS.
HAM E-S TRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 603,987, dated May 10, 1898.
' Application filed September 2, 1897. Serial No. 650,422. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD QUINCEY, of El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented anew and Improved Strap to be Used as a Hame-Strap or other Tightening-Strap, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a strap that will reduce to the minimum the liability to tear at the buckle-tongue, to increase the strength and durability of the strap, and by the use of it to so distribute the strain over all parts of the strap as to prevent the liability to break or tear.
The invention consists of the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Theinvention also consists in the way the strap is made, having the buckle nearer the center of the strap instead of the end and with both ends of the strap free.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying photos or drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure I is the metallic hame-strap loophook, one end of' which, A, is hook-shaped and is fastened into the loop on the hame. (See Fig. III, 0.) Fig. II represents the strap attached to the said metal loop-hook. Fig. III represents the improved strap and loophook attached to the hames ready for use.
The strap is passed through the opening B in the metal loop-hook, so that it is two thicknesses from said loop-hook past the point where it stands in the other hame, the buckle D being placed in the strap between the two thicknesses of leather below and near the metal loop-hook. The metal loop-hook is hooked into the hame C and then closed. The strap is then inserted in the loop on the other hame H from the outside and is brought through until the short end of the strap E passes through the hame-loop H. It is then passed through the loop 0, over the loophook, and through the buckle D.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A hame-strap doubled back on itself and fastened so as to form two loops, a metallic hook secured in the outer loop, anda buckle and keeper held by the second loop, whereby the wearing strain is taken off from the main portion of the strap by the hook and looped portion and whereby the strain on the buckle is partially removed, substantially as described.
RICHARD QUINCEY.
