To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, JOSEPH A. BEAMISDER- FER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syner, in the county of Lebanon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Fence Tools; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of ltheinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in wire stretchers and cutters used in the construction of wire fences; and the object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and eective tool for the rapid construction of fences of this class.
To this end the invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The accompanying drawings show my invention in the best form now known to me but many changes in the details might be made within the skill of a good mechanicV without departing from the spirit of my invent-ion as set forth in the claims at the end of this specication.
The same reference characters in the drawings indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved wire-fence tool. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, showing the application of the tool in stretching the fencewire. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 0o of Fig. 2.
1 represents the longitudinal handle, terminating at its forward end in the crescentshaped integral arms 2 3 and the fixed jaw 4, formed at a right angle to said handle. 5 and 6 denote parallel plates, also formed integral with said handle, and they are provided with integral longitudinal guide-shoulders 7 7 and the transverse recesses 8 and 9, the wall of the recess 9 being beveled, as shown, to form a stationary cutting-jaw 10.
12 denotes a bolt transversely fixed in the parallel plates 5 and 6to form a fulcrum for the hand-lever 13, which is formed with an integral cutting-blade 14 and with a ri ght-angular arm 15, terminating in a rounded toe 16, which engages the recess 17 in the reciprocatin g bar 18, which has a longitudinal sliding movement between the parallel plates 5 and 6, the contiguous plane face of the handle,and the guide-shoulders 7 7 The forward end 19 of the bar 18 is checked or scored and forms a movable jaw to grasp the wire against the fixed jaw 4.
The tool is placed against the fence-post, as shown in Fig. 2, with the free end of the fence-wire held by the jaws 1l 19, and A by using the outer end of either of the crescent-shaped arms 2 3 as a fulcrum the fence-wire may be Very effectually and instantly stretched to the proper tension.
The operation of the cutting device is so simple as to be readily understood without any further description.

A fence-tool comprising the handle 1 formed with the integral jaw 4, the crescentshaped arms 2, 3 and the parallel plates 5, 6, formed with the longitudinal guide- shoulders 7, 7, in combination with the sliding bar 18 formed with the jaw 19 and recess 17 and the hand-lever 13 fulcrumed between said plates and provided with the integral right-angular toe 16 projecting into said recess 17, substantially as shown and described.
2. A Wire-fen ce tool, comprising the handle 1, formed with the integral crescent- shaped arms 2, 3, and the integral right-angular jaw i and the parallel plates 5, 6, one of which is formed with the stationary cutting-jaw 10, in combination with the reciprocating bar formed with the angular jaw 19 and the recess 17, and the hand-lever 13 formed with the integral toe 16 and the cutting-blade 14, and fulcrumed on the bolt 12, removably secured in said plate, substantially as shown and described.
